Cape Maclear is a town situated in the Mangochi District of Malawi's Southern Region. This amazing and beautiful town is located on the Nankumba Peninsula, southern shore of Lake Malawi. Cape Maclear also known by the name of Chembe, is a small fishing village. It is a leading tourist destination and the busiest resort. There are several bars, restaurants, lodges and guesthouses in the town.

Cape Maclear is a small but fascinating village with beautiful sandy beaches. These beaches are worth visiting as they offer you awe-inspiring landscapes. You can also visit the missionary graves on the north end of town. These are the final resting places of the first missionaries who died in 1875.

Visit the Malawian Sunsets as it offers a lot in terms of natural beauty. You can also go for day trips so as to spend time with your loved ones. Pete's Aqualand at Fat Monkeys Lodge is another center offering day trips on the lake from Cape Maclear.

There are several small Malawian restaurants along the main road. You must also relish the traditional cuisines available and experience the real flavor of Cape Maclear.

Shopping here can be done only at few places like :

→ Curio vendors : - sell their wares along the road which are beautiful and cheap. Especially things like hand-carved backgammon and mancala boards.

→ Beach boys : - sell anything from canoe to handmade reed cars, chocolate cakes, handmade jewelry etc.

Cape Maclear is very small. The whole village can be covered on foot. A short stroll will get you wherever you need to go.



Getting Around

Getting here to this village is not a difficult task once you reach Lilongwe, as there are several buses running from the main cities to till the village. The buses charge only few bucks and are quite comfortable.
