Coatepeque Lake

Coatepeque Lake is located in El Salvador. It is regarded as one of the most bewitching and enthralling lakes in the world. The visitors will have to take CA-1W road and reach the Department of Ana to see the lake. The lake looks like a crater. It is actually resides on the collapsed mouth of the volcano; so, it can also be referred as a volcanic crater.

The lake covers an area of 25 sq km and shows its superciliousness for having Los Anteojos peninsula in its possession. The lake derives its name from the words "Coai" and "Tepec". These words mean snake and hill respectively. After understanding the significance of the meaning of its name many tourists who come here also call it ‘Hill of the Snake’. It flows at an elevated position of 740 meters above the seal level.
