Marseille, known as Massalia in earlier times, is the second largest city of France. After Paris and Lyon, Marseille forms the third largest metropolitan area, with a population record of 1,516,340 at the 1999 census and was estimated to be 1,605,000 in 2007. Marseille is the largest commercial port of France situated on the south east coast on the Mediterranean. This city is the administrative capital of Bouches-du-Rhône department as well as of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. The inhabitants of Marseille are known as Marseillais. The main cultural attractions of this city are Opera, Hip Hop music and Gastronomy.

→ Musee Grobet-Labadie : - Musée Grobet-Labadieh houses a unique art collection encompassing of private collections of Marseilles merchants Louis Grobet and Marie-Louise Labadie. These private collections represent an exclusive range of local artifacts ranging from 13th to 18th century. → Marché Puget Estrangin : - This is a food market located on the Cours Pierre Puget. It is a fairground as well on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. A flower market is also held on Monday. This city is full of museums where you will find unique art collections of the past centuries. Other than the above mentioned there are numerous others which are as invigorating as these. Some of them are MAC-Galeries Contemporaines des Musée de Marseille, Galerie du Pharos etc. There are other famous markets as well which include Marché aux poissons (fish market), Marché de la Plaine, Marché des Capucins, Marché du Prado etc.

√ Music concerts and traditional folk music is always on at local squares and at the Docks des Suds. √ Classical music concerts are held at Odeon and classical music festival is held by the Abbaye Saint Victor. √ Modern popular music concerts are held at Dome.

Plenty of fun, dance, music, food, and drinks can be enjoyed here. → Marseille International Documentary Film Festival held in June sees as the best documentaries in Europe. → The French Water Jousting Championships held in July sees men trying to bash each other off their boats and into the water. It is hilarious event for the watchers. → Festival of the Wind is marked by flying of large and colorful kites from the Plage du Prado beach. International kite clubs also compete in this festival held in September.
FoodThere are numerous restaurants in Marseille. From traditional Provencal to exotic cuisine, everyone will find their choice of cuisine in this Phocean City. Local and mouth watering specialties includes the world-famous bouillabaisse (fish stew) of course, but also pieds et paquets, ratatouille, soupe au pistou, bourride, aioli and so on.

→ Bus : - Buses leave the Gare Routiere bus station frequently for destinations around the city, and there is also an extensive network of bus routes crisscrossing Marseille and linking with the metro stations. → Taxis : - There are numerous taxis around Marseille which are available for both short and long distances, and are generally used to travel to places where one cannot go by the metro or city buses. Taxis can either be found at designated taxi stands or from the side of the road.

√ Sea : - Marseilles handles more passengers and freight than any other port in France. √ Air : - Airlines serving Marseille Provence Airport include Air France, Alitalia, Delta and SAS Scandinavian Airlines. Located 20 km north of the city, road connections link the airport to the city center. It’s a journey of about 30 minutes.
