Festive Importance
Barah Wafat is viewed as the birth and the death anniversary of Prophet Muhammad. Considered as a festival of grief and joy, Barah Wafat is celebrated on every twelfth day of Rabi-Ul-awwal. Moreover, the name Barah indicates the twelve days of Prophet Muhammad sickness that ended with his death. During this festival, Muslims congregate to hear discourses on teachings of Allah. As it is a day of birth and death anniversary, no grand celebrations take place rather Muslims spend their time in spiritual activities such as distribution of palms to needy.
Necessities
Quran is recited for all twelve days and the stories of miracles he performed are also narrated. In evenings, Sayidut-Tam, favorite dish of Prophet Muhammad is prepared and people assemble to have sacramental meals followed by porridge of rice that is cooked in milk.
Ceremonies
The ceremony of Sandal rite is performed in some mosques. The emblematic footprints of Prophet Muhammad are worshipped that are engraved in stone. In addition to this, Hymns are sung and elegies are recited in his name to pay tribute to him. With the distribution of food and alms to poor, this day is ends.
