Gandhi’s contribution

Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated on 2nd October as the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Mahatma Gandhi, popularly known as ‘Father of Nation’ has made an invaluable contribution in country’s freedom struggle. Through his strong-willed efforts, simplicity and perseverance, he freed India from the hands of British Empire. He played a major role in achieving freedom and independence for India. Gandhi Ji was preacher of ‘Ahimsa’ (non-violence) and truth.

Besides this, he also initiated the movement of ‘Satyagraha’ for Indian freedom struggle. He firmly believed in the notion of living simple life and even in ‘Swadeshi” clothes. An embodiment of truth & peace, he evidently proved that freedom can also be achieved by the way of non-violence.

Celebrations

On this special day, the President along with Prime Minister followed by other leaders pay homage to the Samadhi of Gandhi at Raj Ghat. All offices, colleges and schools remain closed all over the country. Special functions are organized in all the states of the country under the State Governments.
