Introduction

Independence Day is marked by a day when British colonial rule ended after a period of over 300 years. August 15, is a day of national independence and is considered a national holiday. Independence Day is celebrated with hoisting of a flag and varied cultural programmes in state capitals. The main highlight of this day is the speech by Prime Minister of India at the Red fort, Delhi. This day is celebrated in a mood of joy and all educational institutions and organizations remain closed during this day.

Ceremonies

Both government as well as private organization celebrates it. Various organizations carry out flag hoisting ceremonies by their senior officers. A number of programs relating to Independence are also telecasted on televisions that remind us of tough times that our freedom fighters have gone through. Movies related to patriotism and songs inculcating feeling of patriotism are also shown.

Tradition

Besides this, the tradition of kite flying on this day leaves the sky dotted with colorful kites. Roof-tops and balconies of houses are flooded by people flying kites and one can also hear cheerful shouts.

To conclude, Independence Day gives a reason to celebrate and to contemplate what is achieved and how it is achieved.
