Carved out of Uttar Pradesh in 2000, Uttaranchal comprises the hilly terrain of the Himalayas. Uttaranchal is home to some holiest places of the Hindus. Apart from that, the state houses beautiful hill stations. Uttaranchal is rich in wildlife resources too. So we see that tourism is the biggest revenue generating sector of the state. The government of the state is also capitalizing on this sector and has developed infrastructure for tourists.

The holy towns of Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri are situated in the hills of Uttaranchal. They are the abodes of the holiest Hindu temples and are shrouded with myths and legends.

Mussoorie, Chamba, Pithorgarh, Mukteshwar, Lansdowne and Ranikhet are scenic hill-stations in Uttaranchal.

Nanda Devi National Park in Garhwal and Corbett National Park in Kumaon are sites of wildlife tourism. There are smaller but equally wonderful wildlife abodes like Rajaji National Park, Govind Wildlife Sanctuary, Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary and Ascot Sanctuary. The vegetation consists of deciduous forests and the region abounds in oak, sub-alpine birch, fir and spruce forests, sub-alpine pasture and scrub. The fauna is varied. Himalayan black bears, chirs, civet cat, musk deer, brown bear, pheasants, leopards, tigers , elephants reside in these wildlife spots.
