Introduction to Prag Mahal, Bhuj

History of Prag Mahal, Bhuj
Rao Pragmalji II took up the construction of Prag Mahal in Bhuj, India on 1838 A.D. and continued with it till the year 1876. He assigned the task of designing the building to Colonel Henry Saint Wilkins. Colonel Wilkins was a renowned architect of his time and had gained such reputation by virtue of designing a few of the famous structures like:

The Deccan College
The Sasoon Hospital
The Synagogue of Ohel David
The St. Paul's Church at Pune
The Frere Hall at Karachi and
The Secretariat at Bombay
It took a total time span of 10 years for Bhuj Prag Mahal to be built. In the effort to do so Rao Pragmalji II incurred a total expenditure of rupees 20 lakhs.

Description of Prag Mahal, Bhuj
Raised in the year 1879, the Prag Mahal is a splendid palace made of Italian marble and sandstone. The ornamentation on the body of the structure would definitely leave you spell bound. The Corinthian pillars and Jali work which depicts European plants and animals are also worthy of a mention.

The city of Bhuj is situated 55 kilometers from Palitana, 165 kilometers from Rajkot, and 203 kilometers from Ahmedabad.

You can avail flights from Mumbai and Ahmedabad. There are direct trains available from Ahmedabad on the meter gauge line and from Mumbai on the broad gauge line. Moreover, Bhuj can also be reached by road from all the major towns and cities in Gujarat by luxury coaches, auto-rickshaws, and taxis. The State Transport facilities are highly commendable.
