Kunjaban Palace

A green hillock known as Kunjaban ( a bower) for its scenic beauty stands to the north of Ujjayanta palace at a distance of about 1 Km. Maharaja Birendra Kishore Manikya (1909-1923) selected this beautiful place for building a suburban palace for retreat and constructed a palace in 1917 which was named as ‘Pushbanta Palace’.

The Maharaja himself being gifted artist is said to have drawn the plan of the palace and its adjoining garden. Though not far away yet being a palace came to be regarded as ideal for relaxation and pleasure strolls in the past for its green beauty, green gardens, orchard and a small zoo.

Poet Rabindranath Tagore stayed in the eastern apartment of this palace during his 7th and last visit to the state in 1926. This palace was the mute witness to many of the great poet's creations including a number of popular songs. There are well laid gardens and lawns inside the palace which is the official residence of the Governor of Tripura now. The southern side of the garden has been made open for the public and has been named as ‘Rabindra Kanan’..

Neermahal

A Summer resort built in 1930 by the late Maharaj Birbikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur, is about 55 kms away from Agartala. It is built in the middle of a Lake called Rudrasagar with a total area of about 5.35 kms. A perfect blend of Hindu and Mughal architecture it is the only Lake Palace in Eastern India. Half of the Palace is an open-air theatre and the other half on the Western Side is called the Andar Mahal, used by the Royalty..

Ujjayanta Palace

Ujjayanta Palace, standing in the heart of the city, is a famous royal house, covering an area of one sq. km.. Styled in Greek sculpture, Ujjayanta Palace was built by Maharaja RadhakishoreIan Manikaya in 1901 at a cost of 10 lakh of rupees. The palace is set with the huge lughole style gardens, adorned by pools and fountains, the superbly tiled floors, curved wooden ceiling and exquisitely crafted doors. The three storeyed mansion has a mixed architecture with three high domes(the centre one being 86' high). Its well laid out gardens have two large tanks on either side and the fountains are laid out in the patterns of the Mughal gardens. The palace is floodlit at night.

At one time the Ujjayanta Palace wasz situated 10 km away from the city. But, as a result of the devastating earthquake in the year 1897, the castle had been destroyed, and latter on rebuilt at the heart of the city. On all sides of the palace complex several temple complex has been developed. The temples are of Lakshmi-Narayan, Uma-Maheshwari, Kali and Jagannath.
