Tourist Attractions in Guwahati

Guwahati is the biggest city in the sate of Assam and also one of the most important destinations for the tourists visiting North-East India. The attractions in the city of Guwahati are innumerable and diverse. There are a large number of Hindu temples located in Guwahati. Kamakhya temple is the most important and famous temple located in Guwahati. Among all the tantrik shrines present in the world, Kamakhya temple is well-known as the most holy shrine. The Kamakhya temple dates back to 10th century and is famous for the animal sacrifice ritual. Another popular temple is the Bhubaneshwari Temple, which is located at a higher altitude as compared to that of Kamakhya temple and provides a beautiful view of the city of Guwahati.

Umananda Temple, which is dedicated to the Lord Shiva, is another important attraction located in the city. One can also visit the beautiful Navagraha Temple. This temple also known as the Temple of Nine Planets is believed to be the old seat of astronomy and astrology. The temple has a very interesting structure. Kaziranga, the mention of the name conjures up the image of the famed one-horned rhinos. When it comes to the tourist attractions in Kaziranga, the Kaziranga National Park is the place that features prominently. It was way back in 1940 that the place was conferred the status of a wildlife sanctuary. This wildlife sanctuary provides asylum to the one-horned rhino that weigh a hefty two tones with a 24 inch horn gracing their head. Covered with tall elephant grass, marshy patches and dense tropical forests, the Kaziranga National Park is the ideal habitat for this species of rhino. The park boasts of a population of 1600 rhinos.

The monopoly of the rhinos in the Kaziranga National Park is broken by animals like Sloth Bears, Wild Indian Elephants, Swamp Deer or Barasingha, Indian Bison, Hog Deer, Leopard Cats, Tigers, Jungle Cats, Otters, Hog Badgers, Capped Langurs, Wild Boar, Hoolock Gibbons, Jackal, Wild Buffalo, Pythons and Monitor Lizards. The National Park is also a paradise for the bird watchers. It is a repository of a diverse species of birds that include the Black-Shouldered Kite, Black Kite, Pallas's Fishing Eagle, Grey-Headed Fishing Eagle, Oriental Honey Buzzard, Brahminy Kite, White Tailed Eagle and the Himalayan Griffon. Exciting jungle safaris on elephant is one of the major tourist attractions in Kaziranga. Till date the Kaziranga National Park features as one of the most popular Tourist Attractions in Kaziranga.
