Belgaum is situated in the foothills of Sahyadri mountain range of Western Ghats, at an elevation of 751 metres. It touches the borders of states of Maharashtra and Goa. The Markandeya River flows nearby the city.
Belgaum has a tropical savanna climate which keeps the place pleasant throughout the year. During winters the temperature drops till around 9 degrees Celsius. The showers during monsoon are continuous.
Belgaum can be reached by road through NH4, now part of the Golden Quadrilateral and NH4A. A number of bus services are available from Bangalore, Mumbai and Pune. The city has its own railway station connecting it to Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune, Delhi etc. The airport has regular Spicejet flights from Bangalore.
To move around the city local transport such as buses and autos can be used. For going out of the city taxis can be availed. There are also some car rental services in the city.
