The condition of inscriptions of Hoysala describes that the Sala, the great founder of Hoysala dynasty came from the hilly regions of Angadi presently consider as a Mudigere taluk of Chikmagalur district.

An interesting saga of Chikmagalur!

The name of this town Chikmagalur is derived from the word “Chikkamagalaooru” which stands for ‘younger daughter's town' in kannada language. The tale behind this is that Chikmangalur had been gifted in dowry to younger daughter of the famous tribal leader Rukmangada. Besides this, another part of Chikmangalur known as Hiremagalur had been given to his elder daughter.

Inam Dattatreya Peetha (30 km

Inam Dattatreya Peetha is located in the beautiful hills called Baba Budangiri hills. Inam Dattatreya Peetha is very unique pilgrimage as it is auspicious for both Hindu and Muslim people. There is a laterite cave, it is said that this cave had been shelter for Guru Dattatreya and Hazrat Dada Hayath Mir Khalandar in their respective times. That is why, here both communities celebrate their festivals, Muslims urs and Hindus Dattatreya Jayanti every during Kaarthik Poornima.

Kemmannugundi (50 km)

Kemmannugundi is located in the Baba Budan Hills. Lush greenery and unswayed natural beaut, makes this place simply great. In addition, this place is also called KR hills derived from Woodeyar emperor Krishnaraja Wodeyar. .

Sringeri (90 km)

In the 9th century Adiguru Shankaracharya had come here. Being a social reformer, Shankaracharya had served a lot to the people living here. That is why; today Sringeri is highly valued amongst Hindus as they treat this place as their pilgrimage. Vidyashankara Temple besides Tunga River is one of the main attractions of the place. Vidyatirtha linga at the place is finest example of Dravid and Hoysala architecture.
