At a distance of 50 Kms from Panjim, this is a unique beach in the north, both rocky and sandy but much sought after for its uncluttered solitude. A mudbath with the mud that lines the bottom of this pool, is said to be very good for the skin; and there is a hot spring nearby. The resident hippies swear it's good for you. Located deep north, where the trappings start thinning out and so do the crowds. Naturally, life is cheaper; the beaches are whiter and waters bluer. The beach is an uninterrupted and stunning stretch of curving sand, still unspoilt when compared to other beaches. The beach is quiet except on Sundays, when a large crowd of local picnickers gather here for holidaying. It is a large and sprung out village near the seashore and the villagers are friendly and the place is less touristy allowing you to have a close experience of local life and culture. Some years ago, when the screws were tightened at Anjuna in an attempt to control the more outrageous activities of a certain section of the travelling community, the die-hards cast around for a more sympathetic beach. Initially, only those willing to put up with very primitive conditions came here, but now things are a little more comfortable, and development has, so far, been minimal.
