Katra is a very famous Hindu pilgrimage site and a temple town in Jammu. All the followers of Hinduism flock to Katra for worshipping at the holy shrine of Vaishno Devi. Katra boasts a magnificent temple dedicated to Goddess Vaishnavi or Vaishno, a manifestation of Goddess Durga.
Shrouded by the towering peaks of Himalayas, Katra is a nature's bounty in the valley. It is entrenched at an altitude of 875 meters above sea level. One comes across numerous hilly terrains and small streams while moving towards the holy shrine. With such a serene ambiance, the weather of Katra remains cool throughout the year. The summer season is fairly pleasant as the temperatures do not rise above 25 degrees during the day and fall at 10 degrees at night. The winter season is extremely cold and snowfall blocks the paths. So visiting during extreme winters isn't advisable.
The Vaishno Devi Temple is the prime attraction in Katra. Also, there are numerous others places and trekking points that are frequented by the pilgrims.
