The state museum located in the Lucknow’s Banarasi Bagh has the honor of being the oldest one in the state of Uttar Pradesh and is one of the most spectacular ones in the country. However in 1953 Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), New Delhi overtook the Lucknow Botanical Gardens to make it a combination of a botanic garden and an applied botanical research laboratory. In October 1978 it was rechristened as the National Botanical Research Institute (NBRI).
