Palakkad – the gateway of Kerala is the chief granary of Kerala state. Palakkad, which lies at the foot of the Western Ghats, is a natural depression which is responsible for the making of dense forest, mountains streams, fertile valleys etc.

Palakkad, which runs along the west coast of India, is also known for its historical background. The remnants of the great king Tippu Sultan can be easily seen in the Palakkad town. In addition to this, the noted tourist spot Malampuzha is also located only 8 km away from the Palakkad town.

Attapaddy

Attapaddy is located on the Palakkad District’s northeastern side, at a distance of 40 km from Palakkad. This place covers an area of 827 sq kms and consists of the largest settlement of tribals. The place comprises chiefly of hilly highland terrain which is fed by the Cauvery River’s tributaries. Attapaddy is a broad mountain valley present above the Ghat ranges crest having Bhavani River’s rivulets. Some tamil Nadu’s settlers and mostly tribals inhabit Attapaddy. .

Dhoni

Dhoni located 15 kms away from Palakkad is a long climb of 3 hrs starting from the Dhoni Hill’s base. This area of reserved forests having its beautiful and small waterfall it is major attraction for tourists all the year around. This place has a captivating and splendid waterfall. This place also has opportunities for trekkers since they can trek and explore the hilly terrains. It also has lush green surroundings. Other reasons for which Dhoni is popular include its farmhouses which harbor Swiss variety’s hundreds of cattle. The oldest Shiva temple, The Vishwanatha Swamy shrine, is located at a distance of 3 kms from Palakkad. The annual Chariot Festival or Ratholsavam held at Sree Viswanantha Swamy temple goes on for seven days.

Nelliyampathy

The beautiful ranges of Nelliyampathy comprises of a series of ridges, which are cut off by valleys from one another. Nellikota is the highest peak in the area. One can view here various estates of coffee, tea, orange and even cardamom. Nelliyampathy is located at a distance of around 52kilometers from Palakkad. The cbeautiful hills of Nelliampathy, resting on the top of Western Ghats offers an enchanting view of the valleys and various plantation estates.

Palakkad Fort

Palakkad Fort is one of the Kerala’s best preserved forts constructed in the year of 1766 by Haider Ali of Mysore. British took over this fort in the year of 1790 and renovated it. Palakkad Fort is also called as Tipu’s Fort and was constructed to induce communication between the west coast and Coimbatore. It is situated on the Sokanasini River’s banks and is a memorial of the Adhyatma Ramayana’s author, Thunchath Ezhuthachan, who lived here in his last days. .
