About Tripura
Tripura at present is largely a community of Bengalis, inspite of the presence of 19 scheduled tribes which form a major part of the population. The chief religions followed in Tripura are Hinduism, Buddhism, Christianity and Islam. The tribal's with a varied and rich culture belong chiefly to the Chakma, Reang, Usai and Halam communities. A major population of these tribal's live in raised houses of bamboo known as Tong.
Capital: Agartala.
Population: 27,57,205 as per 1991 Census.
Languages: Bengali and Kakborak. People also understand Hindi and English as well.
Climate: Temperature varies between 10 to 35 Degree Celsius.
Average Annual Rain Fall 2100 mm.
Highest Rain Fall 2855 mm (Kamalpur).
Lowest Rain Fall 1811 mm (Sonamura).
Geographical Location: Tripura is one of the seven states in the north eastern part of India located between 22 degree and 56 minutes and 24 degree and 32 minutes north latitude and between 90 degree and 09 minutes and 92 degree and 20 minutes east latitude. It is bounded on the north, west, south and south-east by Bangladesh whereas in the east it borders Assam and Mizoram.
