Garissa is a city in North Eastern Province, Kenya. It is the capital of the province and Garissa District. It lies on the Tana River and is popular as the geographical 'gateway' to the North Eastern province. The city has a lot in store for the people and can never let you get bored. The beautiful beaches, pleasant weather, several places for entertainment, bars and discos, everything makes it a perfect destination.

Climate and Geography

Garissa has a very hot climate. The days have extremely high temperature but nights are mild and pleasant.

Transportation

Garissa is small town which can be explored on foot. But still the taxis are easily available and quite cheap also. The roads aren't smooth and have got numerous potholes that it becomes impassable. Cycling is a good option to move around inside the city. It is inexpensive as well as perfect way to experience the beauty of the city.

Getting Around : Garissa has an airfield but there are no daily scheduled flights. So it is quite difficult to reach Garissa directly. But there are several buses linking Garissa to the main cities of Kenya. The buses are comfortable and inexpensive mode of transport. You can also hire a taxi or take car on rent to get to Garissa. But the only trouble is that the roads of the city are not surfaced and unpaved, causing weariness.

Shopping and Entertainment

You can buy traditional Somali curio items such as dhiil, ameel and an array of calabashes, as there are not many hopping complexes here. Local handicrafts and souvenirs are the only thing you can shop for.

Garissa has several attractive side streets with typical brightly-painted fronts of the houses and shops. Roam around in these clean streets and experience the royalty attached. The awe inspiring landscapes and beautiful sights are worth admiring. Garissa offers a rich wildlife which must be explored. Here you can find different species of animals and birds, living in their natural habitat.
