Climate and Geography
Throughout the year, Lesotho’s high altitude makes it cooler than other regions at the same latitude. Summer-thunderstorms make most of the precipitation in this region. The temperature in summers often reaches 30 °C (86 °F) in Maseru and the surrounding lowlands. Whereas in winters the temperature in lowlands can dip to -7 °C (19 °F) and the temperature in highlands to -18 °C (-0 °F) at times. The higher peaks go through year-round snowfall. In the highlands, snow is common between May and September. In elevation, Lesotho is the only independent state in the world that lies entirely above 1,000 meters. Therefore its lowest point of 1,400 meters is highest in the world. Besides this, there are some other features as well that make this country interesting. For example- the fact that Lesotho is completely surrounded by the country of South Africa and is also the southernmost landlocked country in the world!
