Day wise Itinerary

  • Day 1 : Paro

    Today you will be entering in Bhutan. On the flight to Paro international air port from Delhi, you will be able to enjoy the beautiful seen of mountains such as Mt. Everest, Kanchenjunga, Makalu, Jomolhari, Jichu Drakey and Tsering ghang  if the weather is clear. When plane reach to air port there will be beautiful valley with scattered and linear settlement along the river. It is known as Paro.
    You will reach Paro airport and there the guide will receive you.
    TACHO LHAKHANG 
    On the way to Thimphu on the left  side of the hill you will see the private temple and down you can see that traditional wooden bridge there. We will be driving towards Thimphu the capital city of Bhutan through the Paro valley and along Pa Chhu (River flowing through Paro valley) till Chhuzom. (meeting of rivers from Paro and Thimphu) then along the Wang chhu (river flowing through Thimphu). It’s of 65 km and it will take around one and half hours to get in the capital city.
    Then at chhuzom you will see three different style of stupas; Nepalese, Tibetan and Bhutanese adorn this confluence. After reaching Thimphu  you will be hotel and rest some hour than we will go town and see many different things.

  • Day 2 : Buddha Point ( Kuensel Phodrang ), Memorial Chorten And National Library.

    Located at a short drive from Thimphu city center, visitors can get a good overview of the Thimphu valley from the Buddha point. You can pay your obeisance and offer prayers to the Buddha, The largest statue in the country  and then walk around the park near Buddha point and take a glimpse of the valley (Thimphu).
    If the time permits, visit National Memorial Chorten (the stupa build in the remembrance of third king of Bhutan and allowed to get inside the Chorten only during the auspicious days in lunar calendar). The paintings and statues inside the monument provide a deep insight into the Buddhist philosophy. After lunch we will drive to National library. Visit the National Library (Saturday, Sunday and Govt. holiday remains closed), established in 1967 to preserve many ancient Dzongkha and Tibetan text. It contains vast varieties of Buddhist texts and manuscripts of some hundreds years back and it also contains modern academic books mainly written on Himalayan culture and religion.Drive towards the textile (Saturday afternoon, Sunday and govt. holidays remain closed)
    SIMPLY BHUTAN
    Opened under the patronage of Her Majesty the Queen mother Ashi Sangay Choden Wangchuk. It holds many types of textile products of past and modern and the crown of the Kings of Bhutan and dress. Moreover the first version of the raven crown can be seen in it.It is in three storied traditional Bhutanese building build around 19th century. It holds varieties of grains that is consumed by ancestors and water mill (mill’s stone dates back 150 years), traditional hot stone bath and typical Bhutanese kitchen garden.
    Then we will drive towards the Motithang Takin Preserve originally established as mini-zoo. It is five minute walk from the road to view the area. There are takin, the national animal of Bhutan and some few other wild animals.
    Then drive down towards the National Institute of Zorig Chusum (commonly known as Painting school) established in 1971 to promote and preserve the arts and crafts in Bhutan. In this you can see mainly the students at work and the different types ofpaintings, curving, casting and other skills of thirteen arts and crafts are exhibited as the output of the students.
    Move towards the vacant vegetable market. Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday many farmers and small business venders gather on the bank of Wang Chhu to sell vegetables and other food stuffs. Out here you will get opportunity to mingle with the farmers and other local people.
    After this we will drive to the main town of Thimphu and we will walk around the market to see or buy any Bhutanese traditional dress or things.
    Conclude the sightseeing of the day by visiting the Tashichho Dzong (fortress of the glorious Religion). This fortress is secretariat building, the throne room of His Majesty, office of the king and various others important government officers. It is the summer residence of His Holiness the Je Khempo (Chief Abbot) and the central monastic body. Below the Dzong there is excellent example of traditional Bhutanese Cantilever Bridge. Night hold in Thimphu hotel.

  • Day 3 : Thimphu To Punakha(75Km,Approx.3Hours Drive)

    Drive towards the Punakha through the Dochula passes. Around one hour drive from Thimphu the pass known as Dochula(3080 m. It is marked by 108 chorten called ‘Druk Wangyal Chorten’ and colourful prayer flag around the area. This chortens are build under initiatives of her Majesty Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuk for His Majesty the fourth Druk Gyalpo and his people for their victory over the war at southern Bhutan in 2003.If the sky is clear you can see some mountain peaks of eastern Himalaya. Then proceed toPunakha by downward drive through broad leaved forest and along the bank of Punatsang chhu. On the way you can see varieties of rhododendron flower.
    CHIMI LHAKHANG
    Chimi Lakhang Temples lies in the fertile Lobesa villge of Punakha Valley. The temple is dedicated to the divine madman-Saint Drukpa Kuenley and the temple is also known as the Temple of Fertility.
    The temple is accessible by 20-25 minutes from the village near the junction of the road that branches out to Wangdue and Punakha. We first walk through the village of Sosokha and then gradually hike through the paddy fields to Lobesa Village and arrive at the temple.
    The temple is associated with Lama Drukpa Kuenley lived in Bhutan around the 1500s. He was a highly accomplished Buddhist master but he was called Divine Madman for his humorous approach and sexual overtones in his teachings.  As per the legend, Lama Drukpa Kuenley subdued a demoness here who was terrorizing the residents of the valley and marked the site for the temple to be built later by his cousin.It’s a general belief that if a childless couple visits the temple and wishes for fertility, they will be blessed by Lama Drukpa Kuenley and will be able to bear children. Nobody knows exactly how and when the tradition of seeking fertility blessing started in Chimi Lhakhang but today, the temple is famous as the Temple of Fertility.
    Visit Punakha Dzong build in 1938, the second Dzong Build Zhabdrung in Bhutan. It had served as seat of government till 1955 and still serve as the winter residence of central monk body and the Je Khempo, the Ch ief abbot of Bhutan. In the dzong there are massive golden status of Zhabdrung, Guru Rinpoche and lord Buddha build in 18th century and many other relics.Nights at hotel in Punakha

  • Day 4 : Punakha

    KHAMSUM YULLEY CHORTEN  [ ENJOY THE HIKE ]
    A 30-minute drive from the Punakha Dzong will bring you to the base of the hill on which this temple is built. From the car park, you have to cross a suspension bridge and walk through rice fields before you start climbing a moderately inclined trail surrounded by pine trees. It takes about 1 hour from the car park to hike up to the temple, and 30 minutes to hike down. During the summer, the walk c ould be a bit muddy, so be prepared. A hiking pole is recommended.
    The 1 hour walk to the temple will take you through rice fields. The 30 minute walk to the temple will take you through rice fields.
    [ The Best View of the Punakha Valley ]
    The best view of Punakha is enjoyed from the top of this temple. If the caretaker is convinced that you will not take pictures inside the temple, and only shoot out of the temple, you will be allowed to take your cameras. On the top floor, you can step outside. Enjoy the view.
    SANGCHEN CHOTEN
    Sangchen Lhuendrup Choling Nunnery: It is a newly opened nunnery (2010) and it was built by the King's maternal grandfather. It sits on top of a ridge and offers grand view of the valley below. Night at hotal.

  • Day 5 : Punakha To Wangdue - Gangtey - Trongsa

    GANGTEY GOEMPA
    Visit  Gangtey Gompa (Monastery) established in 17th century. This monastery is the only nyingmapa monastery on the western side of the black mountain`s and also the biggest nyingmapa monastery in Bhutan. the monastery is surrounded by a large valley inhabited mainly by the families  of the 140 gomchens who take care of the monastery.
    After breakfast drive to Trongsa and cross Pele La pass (3300 Mts). This pass makes boundary between western and central Bhutan.
    CHENDEBJI CHORTEN
    On route visit Chendebji Chorten built by a Tibetan Lama. The most important aspect of this chorten is that, it is built and painted eyes in four cardinal points.
    TRONGSA DZONG
    Before  reaching to town the visitor will see the impressive Trongsa Dzong, built in 1648. It was a very important town culturally as well as strategically, the seat of power, due to its location. Its located between central and Western Bhutan. The landscape of this small town are simply spectacular.On arrival we will put the visitor in hotel or Guest house. After breakfast proceed to visit Trongsa Dzong which was built by Shabdrung Trongsa Dzong, built in 1648. It was a very important town culturally as well as strategically, the seat of power, due to its location. Its located between central and Western Bhutan. The landscape of this small town are simply spectacular. , Then visit the Watchtower on the hillside above the town. The main purpose was to Guard Trongsa Dzong but now it hav turn into museum.
    After lunch walk to town.
    Night at hotel.

  • Day 6 : Trongsa To Bhmthang

    After breakfast drive to Bumthang and it will take 3 hours from trongsa.
    The road passes through the Yutong la pass (3400 Mts) & coniferous forests, then unfold to wide open cultivated valley known as Chumey Valley. 
    On the way we will visit the famous yathra (woolen fabric) weaving.after this pass through kikila pass then to jaker.
    BURNING LAKE
    After lunch, visit burning lake which is consider to be one of the greatest pilgrimage sites of Bhutan. pema lingpa found several of guru rinpoche`s hidden treasures here. The importance of this site is indicated by the extensive array of prayer flags and the small clay offerings called `tse tsa` in rock niches.
    JAKAR DZONG
    After visit jaker Dzong, founded by great grand-father of the first zhubdrung . This Dzong was built in 1549. The Dzong is now used as administrative centre for Bhumthang valley and houses the regional monk body.

  • Day 7 : Bumthang

    KURJE LHANKHANG 
    After breakfast visit kurje Lhakhang , consisting of three temples. The one on the right was built in 16 52 on the  rack face where guru medited in the 8th century. Second temple is built on the site of a cave containing a rock whith the im print of guru`s body and is therefore considered the most holy. The
    third temple was built in 1990s by ashi kesang, the queen mother. These three temples are surrounded by 108 chorten wall.
    JAMBAY LHAKHANG
    Jambay Lhakhang, this monastery was built in the 7th century by tibeten king, songtsen gempo. It is one of the 108 monasteries built by his to subdue evil spirits and Himalayan region its present architectural appearance dates from the early 20th century.
    TAMSING LHAKHANG
    After lunch, tamsing Lhakhang , located acrossthe river from kurje Lhakhang, this temple was founded in 1501 by terton pema lingpa, the rein carnation of guru padsambhava. The monastery has very ancient religious paintings like 1,000 buddhas and 21 taras ( female form of buddhistava ) .  the temple was restored at the end of the 19th century.

  • Day 8 : Punakha

    Drive back to Punakha following the same road. Around 8 hours drive back to hotel

  • Day 9 : Punakha To Paro

    After breakfast we countinue our fascinating journey towards paro, on route visit simtokha Dzong. Simtokha Dzong is a small dzong, located about 3 miles south of the Bhutanese capital of Thimphu. Built in 1629 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, who unified Bhutan, the dzong is the first of its kind built in Bhutan. An important historical monument and former Buddhist monastery, today it houses one of the premier Dzongkha language learning institutes. It recently underwent renovation
    TA DZONG (MUSEUM)
    On a ridge immediately above Rinpung Dzong is the Ta Dzong, built as a watchtower to protect the Dzong from intruders and warring factions.  In 1968 Paro’s Ta Dzong was inaugurated as the National Museum, and now holds a fascinating collection of art, relics, religious thangkha paintings, Bhutan’s exquisite postage stamps, coins and handicrafts, together with small natural history collection.
    RINPUNG DZONG (PARO)
    Explore the Rinpung Dzong which the locals call the ‘fortress of a heap of jewels’. Built in 1646 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, the dzong stands on a hill above Paro Township. It is linked by the traditional cantilever bridge (called the Nemi Zam) over the Pa chu where one may pose a photograph. Experience a walk up a paved stone path running alongside the imposing outer walls. Once inside the Dzong, you will be welcomed by the monks, architecture and the ancient frescoes.
     

  • Day 10 : Paro

    TAKTSANG MONASTERY (TIGER NEST)
    Often called the Tiger’s Nest, perched on the cliffs, has awestruck many a visitor. “Trip to Bhutan is never complete without climbing to Taktsang”, says the tourists. Indeed, it’s true as the journey there fills you with spiritual bliss. For those not choosing the spiritual side it is the dramatic, artistically built monument that becomes a hiker’s delight. Take a trip to this dramatically set Buddhist relic hanging from a cliff. Experience the uphill climb as you ascend more than two thousand feet from the valley floor.
    KYICHU LHAKHANG (TEMPLE)
    Go back in time and history and visit the 7th century Kyichhu temple. As the name suggests, the temple is a reservoir of peace, where you will really feel at peace here. Next to the temple is the house that is now turned into a museum dedicated to the late Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche. One can come across photographs and other artifacts belonging to Rinpoche.

  • Day 11 : Paro

    Depart from Paro airport.
