  • Transfer to Kampland

    Description :

    Birding on the way at Jeolikote (This is a good place for Common, Stork billed and White-throated Kingfishers,Plumbeous and White-capped Redstarts, Green Magpie, White Crested Laughingthrushes, Bluethroated, Coppersmith and Lineated Barbets etc as well as the spectacular ruby coloured Scarlet Minivet To name a few.
    Check in at the Camp.
    Lunch.
    Post Lunch to be followed by birding for Spotted Forktails, Green Tailed Sunbird, Striated Laughingthrush, the noisy Rusty-cheeked Scimitar Babbler, Green-backed Tit, Verditer Flycatcher, Great Barbet, and if lucky, even a Brown Fish Owl like the one that was spotted by us in the beginning of August at the nearby stream/ sigri.
    Bonfire in the evening followed by dinner at the Camp.
    Night Drive post Dinner to Vinayak or Kilbury to look for Leopards and other creatures of the night like the Red Fox, Serow, Leopard Cat or Himalayan Palm Civet.
    Overnight at Camp .

    Mountain

    Description :

    Early start 6 a.m( with packed breakfast) to “Cheer point” primarily to look for the elusive Cheer pheasant, The forest around is good for Koklass Pheasant, Common Kestrel, Himalayan and Rufous-bellied woodpeckers,White-tailed nuthatches, thrushes like the Chesnut-bellied Rock Thrush, Scaly Thrush, Chestnut-crowned Laughingthrush etc. Mammals like Himalayan Brown Goral on the rolling grassy slopes of Cheer Point and possibilities of Barking Deer, Sambar and even Serow in the forests around.
    Post our lookout for Cheer Pheasants and Himalayan Gorals we will aim to proceed further and drive through dense Oak and Deodar forests till Kunjakharak Forest Rest House, with pauses for bird spotting at various other milestones . The forests here hold the promise of the musical yet uncommon Hill Partridge, Mountain Hawk Eagle, Grey-winged Blackbird, Eurasian Jay and recently even offered us sightings of the Black Backed Forktail at two different spots as well. Mammals may include Wild Boar, Leopard (if we are very lucky) and even one of the 2-3 Tigers recorded coming up from the Corbett Tiger Reserve in the Camera traps of the Forest Department.
    Kunjakharak is the end of the road, and provides a viewer with spectacular views of the Kosi River Valley. We will take a short Chai and breakfast break here to take in the surrounding forest and its feathered residents like Black-throated Tits, Coal Tits, White-throated Laughingthrushes, Maroon Oriole and the enormous Scaly-bellied Woodpecker to name a few .
    Back to the Camp for lunch.
    Post Lunch in the afternoon we will be birding in the lowland slopes at Bagad and Timlapani to look for Spotted forktails , Green tailed, Black throated and Fire-tailed Sunbirds, Warblers ,Slaty-headed parakeets, Blue-throated barbets and the tiny but mystically sounding Black-chinned Babbler. For Herp enthusiasts this is also a place where one may find the lovely Kashmir Agama crossing the path or sunning itself on a rock in the afternoon sun.
    Evening bonfire at the Camp followed by dinner .
    Over night at Camp.
    Option of Night Drive at extra cost or a free guided Night Walk/Stroll.

    The thick Oak fores

    Description :

    An Early Start once again at 6 a.m and aiming to check out the birding at one of the trails amidst the thick Oak forest behind Gugukhan. This area is a haunt of Leopards, Himalayan Black Bears, and Yellow-throated Martens. Birding highlights would possibly include the Soaring and Majestic Black Eagle, Himalayan Vultures, Grey-hooded Warbler, Himalayan Shrike Babbler, Rufous Sibia, Yellow-breasted Greenfinch, Brown fronted Woodpecker, Chestnut-bellied Nuthatch, Bar-tailed Treecreeper, Greater and Lesser Yellownapes to name a few.
    Back to the camp for breakfast between 9-10 .
    Lunch
    Post lunch we will try the Budlakot Village trail. This trail starts right opposite Pangot village, and takes you deep into the oak forests as well as to a stream around 2kms from the starting point . Birds such as Koklass Pheasant, Black-headed Jay, Streaked Laughingthrush, Wedge-tailed Green Pigeon, Rufous-bellied and Small Niltavas, Black-faced and Whistler’s Warblers will be some of the target species in the area.
    Return to the Camp for dinner .
    Overnight at Camp.
    Option of Night Drive at extra cost or a free guided Night Walk/Stroll.

    Departure

    Description :

    We start early in the morning and drive back towards the rolling grassy slopes of "Cheer point" for another shot at sighting the rare Cheer Pheasant and the various other species that may cross our path. Return to the Camp for breakfast by 9/10 am.
    Post Breakfast transfer to Kathgodam station for the onward journey.
