Most of the tourists stay in the old city, visiting the City Palace and enjoying the Lake view. However there is much more to discover apart from the typical touristic spots. Mahatma Gandhi ji once said that India lives in the village - so get out the city and meet “real India”! The walk offers a unique opportunity to interact with diverse communities of Udaipur’s artists that work on alternative and sustainable ways of life. You will be able to meet potters, puppet-makers, miniature artist way from the touristic spots and spend time with families in their homes to hear their stories about Rajasthani Culture.
What and where?
Join me for a “Hands-on-walk” around beautiful Neemach Mata Temple in tha Aravalli Hills :
You meet a potter family in Bedla village and feel the wet clay around you fingers and palms as you pinch and rub a pot into existence.
Watch and listen to a princess and a magician come to life under the practiced and purposeful pull of their string by a puppet-maker family in the Neemach Kera Neighborhood.

Meet young designers who create new products out of waste material. Like this you will understand the value of those traditional and beautiful artworks.
My name is Nirmal Prajapat. I am a local artist and a zero-waste designer. I started painting as part of my family miniature painting business in primary school, but began to self-educate as a contemporary artist in my teenage years. For the past 15 years, I created art in tandem with my involvement in community work. I conducted art and sustainable workshops with children, women and jail inmates. I am passionate about sharing and promoting local Mewari crafts and culture, that is why I stared the neighborhood walks. I am the co-founder of “Millets of Mewar”, the first healthy and organic food restaurant in Udaipur.
The walk takes place every day; staring at 10 am from the Restaurant Millets of Mewar in the old city. A rikshaw will take you away from the touristic parts into the artistic neighborhood. The group should be minimum 2 and max. 8 people.
