Day 1 : Arrival and transfer to Thimphu (Driving Time 1.5 hours)
As your Druk Air/Bhutan Airlines flight weaves through the valley, arrival in Bhutan is like no other. As you touch down, keep your camera at the ready, as we have noticed how passengers slowly disembark and then stand on the tarmac totally bewildered. Then move through to immigration where you will present your Visa Approval letter and Passport for the official stamp. As you clear the Immigration check, please make your way to the baggage delivery area and here you will meet your Guide for the first time. The transfer to Thimphu is approximately 1 ½ hours,
Visit Iron Bridge on the way to Thimphu.
On arrival, check-in the hotel
In the evening walk around Thimphu city and feel the culture of Bhutanese.
Day 2 : Tour of Thimphu
Visit Bhutan Post for various collections of stamps and post cards.
Visit Institute for Zorig Chusum: Commonly known as the Painting School, the Institute offers a six-year course on the 13 traditional arts and crafts of Bhutan. On a visit one can see students learning the various skills taught at the school. (10am-1pm on weekends)
Visit to Folk Heritage Museum: a restored mid-19th century house which gives one insight into the average household & lifestyle in the region during that era. The house replicates a traditional farmhouse and is furnished as it would have been about a century ago. (10 am 1pm on weekends).
Visit Tashichho Dzong. This impressive fortress/monastery houses the secretariat building, the throne room of His Majesty, the King and various government offices. It is also the summer residence of the Chief Abbot and central monk body.
Visit the National Memorial Chorten (sacred place for offering) .The building of this landmark was originally envisaged by Bhutan’s third king. His Majesty Jigme Dorji Wangchuck (“the father of modern Bhutan”) Completed in 1974 after his untimely death, it serves both as a memorial to the late King and as a monument to peace.
Visit Takin Preserve (National Animal of Bhutan).
In the evening, drive to Kuenselphodrang(Buddha Point) to view the world’s largest and the tallest statue of Lord Buddha. The 169-feet bronze statue of Buddha Dordenma symbolizes indestructibility, and seated on a vajra throne, overlooking the capital city. Walk across the park and enjoy the beauty of the Thimphu Valley. Evening at leisure (Overnight at Thimphu)
Day 3 : From Thimphu to Punakha
We opt for an early departure for a dramatic drive over the high mountain pass of DochuLa and on to the Punakha Valley. Sights on the way include one of Bhutan’s first fortress monasteries; the 17th century Simtokha Dzong, The journey continues over the 3,050m mountain passes where on a clear day, towering Himalayan peaks are clearly visible.
Before arriving at our hotel, stop at the Chimi Lhakhang, a fertility shrine built in the 15th century. Hopeful young couples wanting children may be seen making offerings to the shrine.
After Checking in the hotel the afternoon in Punakha valley begins with a beautiful hike along the Mo Chhu, takes to the Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten, a monument recently built by the four queens of Bhutan. Following the hike you will drive back up the valley towards Khuruthang passing Punthsho Pelri Palace and several other winter homes of the royal family before reaching the impressive Punakha Dzong. This ancient fortress is the winter residence of the monastic order’s head and still serves as the administrative headquarters for the Punakha region
(Overnight at Punakha).
Day 4 : Phobjikha Valley and Gangtey Gonepa Exploration
Today we start early morning towards Gangtey Goempa. Gangtey Goempa, 16th century monastery situated picturesquely at the hilltop at the edge of Gangtey village, making it the landmark structure of Phobjikha valley. It is the central seat of the Pelling tradition of Buddhism in Western Bhutan.
A few kilometers beyond the Gangtey Monastery, on the valley floor lies the village of Phobjikha. This place is the winter home of black necked cranes that migrate from Tibet to Bhutan in winter. If you are lucky enough you can see the rare species over the valley. Drive back to hotel in Punakha.(Overnight at Punakha)
Day 5 : From Punakha to Paro
After descending back down from Dochu La, you will follow your way back up the dramatic Wang Chu en route visiting a traditional Bhutanese farmhouse, to gain an insight into the lifestyle and culture of the local people. The sightseeing at Paro starts with a visit to the National Museum. Here, an intriguing collection of art facts provide a wonderful introduction to the rich culture and heritage of the Kingdom. Just a short walk downhill lays the dominating Paro Dzong, a fine example of Bhutanese historic architecture. From the Dzong, the tour crosses Nymag Zampa, a traditional cantilever bridge, and guests are then driven to the town temple, built in 1525, to view ancient wall paintings.
Visit the Kichu Lhakhang, the oldest temples to have been built in Bhutan and it is one of the 108 temples built by the Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo in the 7th century AD. The King is said to have built 108 temples in a day throughout the Himalayan regions of which Kichu Lhakhang in Paro is one of them Rest day at your leisure (Overnight , Paro).
Day 6 : Hike to Tiger’s Nest/ Taktsang
The day starts with an hike up to view one of Bhutan’s most revered monuments, the Taktsang Goempa, more commonly referred to as the "Tiger’s Nest". The four-hour trek offers spectacular views of this sacred monastery perched on a cliff face 900m above the valley floor. In the evening, there is an opportunity for a quick stroll to the nearby ruins, a visit to some of the valley’s oldest and holiest religious monuments or a ramble down Paro’s main street. (Overnight at Paro).
Day 7 : Departure Day
In the morning drive towards the airport for your international Departure.
