The Vamanamoorthy Temple Thrissur is one of the oldest temples situated in Peruvanam Gramam, Thrissur district of Kerala. This intricate temple is dedicated to the fifth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, Lord Vamana. The idol of the Lord Vamana is believed to be 1500 years old. The temple of Lord Vamana is very rare in the whole country. The local people, as well as people from all around the world, come here to worship the Lord and seek his blessings. Besides the beautiful temple, the place is filled with greenery and a traditional house, which imparts an impressive look.

The sacred Vamanamoorthy Temple has a lot of beliefs from ancient times. Three Uranmakkar owns the temple; they are Pattachomarayath Mana, Alakkattu Mana, and Akkarachittur Mana. The temple is open in the morning from sharp 5:30 am to 10:30 am. Then the temple opens from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm. You can visit the temple between these timings.

 

History of Vamanamoorthy Temple

 

The history of the temple is fascinating. According to the legends, this place is very sacred, and the idol is worshipped for more than 1500 years. The age of the god is calculated by “Ayathu Sivalokam,” a Malayalam recital that is depicted in the Arattupuzha temple. There are other idols of the Lords present in the temple amongst whom is Lord Ganesha positioned in the south, Annapoorneswari kept in the Northeast pillar of the temple, and Swamiyar is seated in the southeast. The main festival of the town is Another Kottu or Sampoorna Yajurveda Yajna. This festival is celebrated every three years, from July to November.

 

How to reach the Vamanamoorthy Temple:

 

There are three ways to reaching Vamanamoorthy Temple. They are as follows:

• By Air:

Thrissur has no airport and the nearby airport is in Kochi. From any major city with an airport, you can easily take a flight and reach Kochi airport. From there, you can take a bus or hire a cab to reach Vamanamoorthy Temple, which will be a one and a half hour journey.

• By Train:

Thrissur has a railway station, thus form any city you can take a train which comes to Thrissur railway station, from there Vamanamoorthy Temple is about 70 km. therefore you can take a bus or hire a cab which will take you to your destination.

• By Road:

The Vamanamoorthy Temple is very well connected with all the highways. You can take a bus or hire a car and come here. The easiest route is to go from Thrissur. You can also take a bus from Mangalore or Kochi or Thiruvananthapuram and come to visit the temple.
