Climate & Geography
The northern parts of Iran have a semiarid climate with the temperatures generally staying above the freezing point. However, the western parts (the Zagros basin) experience much lower temperatures. The winters of the parts are severe, with the daily temperatures falling below zero. There is very less rainfall in the eastern and central basins with the measurements reading well below 200 mm (7.9 inch). The summer temperatures read well above 38 degrees Celsius (100.4 degrees F).
Iran is bordered by the Caspian Sea to the north, Azerbaijan and Armenia to the north-west, Afghanistan and Pakistan to the east, Turkmenistan to the northeast, the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman to the southern direction and Iraq to the west. Iran is positioned between latitudes 24 degrees and 40 degrees N and longitudes 44 degrees and 64 degrees E.
The roadways are the most preferred way to travel in Iran. Apart from them, the railways, metro, waterways, and ports and harbors also form convenient ways of travelling.
