The Adventures Beyond Kimberley adventure departs from Darwin at 6am. Travelling south down the Stuart Highway we visit Edith Falls for a swim. Later in the day we head to Katherine Hot Springs before travelling west towards Western Australia to set up the first of our bush camps on the Victoria River.
It is a full blow camping adventure - rugged, real and authentic. There are no white table cloths on this one! It is awesome.
Day 1 : Darwin, Edith or Katherine Falls, Hiking and More
After an early start at 6am we head for what many consider to be one of the last great expanses of rugged wilderness areas remaining in the world, the mighty Kimberley Region of Northern Western Australia. Oheading south of Darwin we visit Edith Falls in Katherine Gorge National Park and enjoy a short 3 km walk to the upper pools which is the first of many beautiful waterfalls we will see over the next 9 days. After lunch we push west towards the Western Australia Northern Territory state border and our first bush camp. We set up the camp fire, enjoy a meal and roll out our swags to sleep under a million stars!
Day 2 : Lake Argyle, Keep River National Park and An Island Bush Camp!
Day 2 of your Kimberley adventure tour starts early as we explore the Keep River National Park and off to Lake Argyle. In Keep River we take some great hikes and then head to Lake Argyle for an exclusive boat cruise to an exclusie island on the lake. We spend the night here after a local guide shows us the lake. There is time to swim, we watch an amazing sunset from the water and set up camp with a campfire on the island. A truly memorable night in the wilderness.
Day 3 : Boat Cruise, Kununurra and the Bungle Bungles
Day 3 of your Kimberley adventure tour is an amazing and unforgettable experience. Sunrise from the island camp is so special, after packing up camp, we re board the boat and head back tot he vehicle. After Lake Argyle we go to Kununurra and replanish our supplies for the following days on tour, and then head south to the Bungle Bungles. After some driving we set up our next bush camp on a lovely creek with a white sandy creek. It is awesome!
Day 4 : Bungle Bungles, Echidna Chasm, Bungle Sunset and Bushwalking
Day 4 we enjoy the highlight of Purnululu National Park - commonly known as the Bungle Bungles. The long and dusty track into the Bungles is spectacular, we wind our way through the valleys and over the ranges, through the creeks and this is one of the most amazing landscapes on the planet. We locate our campstie and head off for Echidna Chasm , hike into the domes and follow a creek to its source at a narrow passage buried in the Bungles. We end the day with a spectacular sunset from the hill top.
Day 5 : Bungle Sunrise, Cathedral Gorge, Optional Scenic Flight and More
On day 5 of yoru Kimberley adventure tour, we again rise early and enjoy sunrise over the spectacular Bungle Bungles. After a short drive to the Cathedral Gorge hike, we trek through the bee hive formations and the gorge is one of the most impressive formations you will see. We then have an opportunity to take a helicopter ride over the Bungle Bungles and from the air you will get a completely different prespective of this amazing region. We spend night 5 at the base of the Cockburn Ranges.
Day 6 : Emma Falls, El Questro, Gibb River Road, Pentacost River
Day 6 we head onto the famous Gibb RIver Road - a famous dirt track in the remote outback. This 700km outback road runs between Derby andKununurra, it is rough and ready, there are many deep water corssings and a 4WD vehicle is essential. It is a truly amazing outback road and there are amazing rivers, gorges and waterfalls to explore. We visit El Questro station, Emma falls and an amazing hike takes us to a beautiful plunge pool. We finish the day driving through a 60m wide outback river infested with crocodiles, before setting up camp on the Gibb River.
Day 7 : Gibb River Road, Manning Gorge, 5km Bush Hike and More
Day 7 we start with an earlymorning swim in the Gibb River, we take a walk into an aboriginal rock art site where your guide can explain the importance of the paintings. We head back onto the Gibb River Road and onto Manning Gorge where we wpend most of the day. There are white sand beaches and the waterways are lined with Pandanus trees which opens out into a wide clear waterhole. The gorge has a waterfall and a deep wide swimming hole surrounded by granite cliffs. We then check out some other local spots and camp near Manning.
Day 8 : Gibb River Road, Bell Gorge, Windjana Gorge and More
Day 8. or second to last day of our adventure in the Kimberley between Darwin and Broome involves exploring Bell Gorge, an amazing waterfall on another amazing day. We have a 20 minute walk and come to a beautiful creek which cascades over numerous falls. There is a deep swimming hole at the base of the waterfall surrounded by shady ledges, it is an ideal lunch spot. In the afternoon we head to Windjana gorge with high vertical cliffs and withe sandy beaches on a meandering creek. There are fresh water crocodiles and clear waterholes. Tonight is our last bush camp with campfire.
Day 9 : Boab Prison Tree, Tnnel Creek, Cable Beach Sunset and More
Today is our final day of or Kimberley adventure. We head to our final swimming destination, Tunnel Creek. Thsi amazing natural phenomenon holds great significance to the aboriginal people and we get there early to beat the crowds. You trek 750m through the creek which runs underground though the oldest cave system in Western Australia. There are many rock paintings to see. From here we check out the Boab prison tree near Derby before making our way into Broome. Upon arrival we check out the sunset over cable beach, before you are dropped off at your accommodation after an amazing adventure.
