Day 1 : Hue - Hamburger Hill - Khe Sanh Combat Base
We would pick you up from your hotel in Hue at 8.00am then head west to Aluoi for the Ashau valley, one of the strategic focal points of the war in Vietnam. Located in western Hue city, the narrow 40 kilometer long valley was an arm of the Ho Chi Minh Trail funneling troops and supplies toward Hue and Danang. At the north end of the valley was the major North Vietnamese Army (NVA) staging area known as Base Area 611. Because of its importance to the North Vietnamese plan for victory, the Ashau vally became a major battleground from the earliestThe Ashau Valley area map days of the U.S involvement in South Vietnam.
We have stops at the former US Army 101st Airborne Division along route 547 including Birmingham firebase, Bastogne firebase and Vehgel firebase before entering the Ashau vally to walk up the infamous Hamburger Hill, the last bloodiest battle between the U.S troops and the NVA troops in the Vietnam War. The battle took place on Ap Bia mountain or Hill 937 in the rugged, jungle-shrouded mountains along the Laotian border with South Vietnam. After 10 day battle ( from May 10 to May 20 1969 ), the U.S 101st Airborne Division took the hill , US troops fought a brutal battle up the hill before finally capturing it on May 20. Due to the severity of the fighting, Hill 937 was dubbed "Hamburger Hill. After lunch at Aluoi we drive along the winding Road 14 ( one of the main branches of the Ho Chi Minh Trail ) up to Khe Sanh to visit Khe Sanh Combat Base, a large Marines combat base attacked by a massive forces of the North Vietnamese Army in early 1968, where we will spend ample time exploring this famous Marine Corps base camp. After that we continue west toward the Laotian border to visit the Langvei Special Forces Camp, overrun in the first ever NVA tanks. Overnight at Sepon hotel at Lao Bao border.

Day 2 : Khe Sanh Combat Base - Vinh Moc Tunnels - Hue
Early morning departure for a full day in the field covering the former US Marines military installations along route 9 including Khe Sanh Combat Base, the Rockpile, Camp Carroll Cua Tung beach near Vinh Moc tunnels. Then we continue east to the old DMZ, we pull over at Gio Linh ( Alpha 2 ) firebase - the northernmost firebase of the U.S Marine Corps in South Vietnam. The next stop is Peace bridge across the Ben Hai river, the river that was the only true physical demarcation line between the two Vietnams. We have lunch at the breezy Cua Tung beach. The last stop of the day is Vinh Moc tunnels, the refuge of some 400 north Vietnamese refugess during the bombing operation “ Rolling Thunder. “ Drive all the way back to Hue. End of the tour.
