TOUR DESCRIPTION -
A tour for the running enthusiasts to participate in the two major marathon events held in Bhutan annually. The events are organized by the Bhutan Olympic committee on 3rd March and 2nd June each year. Over the past two years, these races have blossomed into a popular event for participants from all over the world. Many runners come to experience the splendors of Bhutan and while at it enjoy the thrill of running a half marathon or a full marathon.
As a country blessed with topographical diversities, the route traverses through wide open valleys, scenic mountainsides, idyllic countryside, rice fields, monasteries, wayside markets and pristine forests before arriving at the finish line.
We facilitate all aspects of your stay in Bhutan from your visa, air tickets, marathon registrations, hotels, guides, transport and also cultural sightseeing in Bhutan to allow you to maintain focus on your race preparations and more so enable you to take back plenty of good memories along with your well-earned medal.

A visit to Punakha Dzong built at the confluence of two rivers, it is one of the Beautiful structures in Bhutan. Punakha Dzong is notable for containing the preserved remains of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel, as well as a sacred relic known as the Rangjung Karsapani.

Day wise Itinerary

  • Day 1 : Arrival in Paro - Thimphu, (1st March)

    The Flight to Paro gives you a breathtaking with views of Major Himalaya peaks such as Everest, Kanchenjunga and Makalu, and Bhutan’s own snowy peaks, the sacred Jomolhari, Jichu Drake and Tsherimgang on a clear day. As you enter Paro valley, you will sweep past forested hills with the silvery Pa Chu (Paro river) meandering down the valley below. Paro Dzong (fortress) and Ta Dzong (watchtower) on the hills above the town will be a fine sight. As you exit from airport after completion of arrival formalities, you will be warmly received by our team by offering scarf. Our team will then take you to Thimphu. Where you will check in to the hotel and have your first taste of Bhutanese cuisine. After lunch, you will have some sightseeing in Thimphu as a part acclimatization to the altitude. The sightseeing begins with a
    Visit to Buddha Point, Located at Kuenselphodrang Nature Park. This 169 feet bronze statue of Buddha Dordenma, Vajra Throne Buddha makes it one of the largest statue of Buddha in the world.
    Followed by a visit to the National Memorial Chorten - Built in honor of the late King Jigme Dorji Wangchuk.
    In the evening, our team will take you to visit
    Thimphu Trashi Choo Dzong, the office of the King of Bhutan and witness the Bhutanese Flag lowering ceremony near the dzong. Followed by a rest at your hotel. (Overnight and dinner at your hotel in Thimphu)

  • Day 2 : Thimphu - Punakha, (2nd March)

    A part of Acclimatization
    After breakfast,
    Our team will take you to Wangdue Phodrang. Enroute, stop at Dochula Pass (10,100feet). The pass is a popular location among visitors as it offers a stunning 360-degree panoramic view of Bhutanese Himalayan range. The view is especially scenic on clear day with snowcapped mountains forming a majestic backdrop to the tranquility of the 108 Druk Wangyal Chortens gracing the mountain pass.
    Visit the Devine Madman’s Monastery Chimmi Lhakhang, famously known for its fertility shrine, where one can receive a special fertility blessing. Followed by a lunch at Metsina village.
    After Lunch,
    Drive to Damchen Resort in Khuruthang for a Packet Pick Up and Race check-in inside Damchen resort. You will receive your race number at this time which will need to be pinned to the front of your running shirt.
    Note: the participant are advised to bring a picture id to check in. The mandatory pre-race briefing will be right after Packet Pick Up on Friday, March 2, at 2:00 PM inside Damchen Resort in Khuruthang. (Overnight and Dinner at your hotel in Punakha).

  • Day 3 : Punakha, Bhutan International Marathon, (3rd March, 2018)

    Today is the day of the Bhutan International Marathon and be sure to stay hydrated throughout. All the best.
    As advised by the Bhutan Olympic Committee
    Full Marathon runners must report to the Damchen Resort Parking Lot and be on the bus by 5:30 AM on race morning in order to catch the bus to the start line of your event.
    Half Marathon runners must report to the Damchen Resort Parking Lot and be on the bus by 6:00 AM on race morning in order to catch the bus to the start line of your event.
    The Program kick starts as follows
    8:00 AM. Full Marathon Race Start.
    8:00 AM. Half Marathon Race Start.
    1:30 PM. All runners must reach the 4th read-point Pho Chhu suspension bridge.
    3:00 PM. Race cutoff time at finish line.5:00 PM. Awards Celebration at Thangzor, Punakha.
    [Note: Event week itinerary will be likely to be changed in the last minute by the technical director]

  • Day 4 : Punakha Sightseeing, (4th March)

    After Breakfast,
    Our team will take you to Yabesa village from where you will hike to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten through rice fields. It was built by her majesty the queen Ashi Tshering Yangdon Wangchuck. It is Perched high on a hill on the bank of the river and houses paintings belonging to Nyingmapa Traditions.
    You will enjoy a slow and mild hike with one of the best scene from the point.
    Our team will then take you to your hotel for you to get refresh and lunch.
    After lunch and a rest,
    Our team will help you get dressed in a National Attire of Bhutan and then take you to visit Punakha Dzong, the most spectacular Dzong in Bhutan, built at the confluence of the Mo Chhu (Female River) and Pho Chhu (Male River) in 1637. This huge fortress/monastery was the national capital until 1966 and is the place where the country’s kings have been crowned and the site for the 5th King’s Royal Wedding in Oct. 2011.
    Followed by and a walk to one of the one longest suspension bridge in Bhutan for you to have a heart pumping experience. (Overnight and Dinner at your hotel).

  • Day 5 : Punakha - Paro, (5th March)

    A slow start for the travelers after a good rest at your hotel.
    After your breakfast, at your hotel
    Our team will drive you to Paro with enroute stop at Thimphu for last minute shopping and lunch.
    After lunch, Drive to Paro where you will visit Paro Rinpung Dzong, this 15th century massive fortress/monastery, is also the administrative center of the dzongkhag.
    Followed by a visit to the watch tower, the Ta Dzong. It was converted into the National Museum in 1968. The museum boasts antique Thangka, textiles, weapons and armor, household objects and rich assortment of natural and historic artifacts. (overnight and Dinner at your hotel in Paro)
    There is an option of the travelers to have a short hike from Dochula pass to the Hungtsho. It is one of the popular short hike among the travelers as the trail offers you with the best the nature can afford. Apart from that, you will also get to a typical rural Bhutanese village.

  • Day 6 : Paro, Hike to Taktshang Monastery, (6th March)

    After breakfast,
    Drive to Paro for about 1 hour and hike up to Taktshang Monastery, also known as ‘Tiger’s Nest’. Taktshang Monastery is Bhutan’s most iconic landmark and religious site. The name Taktshang translates to “The Tiger’s Nest”. This monastery is one of the most holy sites in the kingdom and clings impossibly to a sheer cliff face 2952 feet above the Paro Valley. At about an altitude of 10,100 feet, Taktshang was first built in 1692 at a cave where Guru Rinpoche meditated in the 7th century A.D. No trip to Bhutan would be complete without a visit to this remarkable heritage site. You will stop for refreshment at the View Point Cafeteria. Then walk further up to the monastery. After visiting the monastery, you will come back for lunch at the view point cafeteria.
    After lunch, Walk down to the road point,
    Our team will then take you to visit Kyichhu Lhakhang, one of the 108 temples built in the 7th century by the Tibetan King Songtsen Gyempo. To overcome the giant demon who was preventing the spread of Buddhism in Himalayan region, 108 similar temples were built by the king on all the points of her body.
    Followed by a stone bath to heal your body from tiring hike and dinner at one of the popular lodge at the middle of farm known as Eco lodge. Our team will then take you to your hotel for relaxation and preparation for your departure. (Overnight at you hotel in Paro).

  • Day 7 : Depart Bhutan, (7th March)

    Today we will bid fond farewell to this beautiful Himalayan country and take an early flight back to Singapore. We hope by now you would have made some friends and also kept many photos and beautiful memories of Bhutan! And we look forward to seeing you again in this beautiful land of endless Enchantments!
