Day wise Itinerary

  • Day 1 : Arrive Paro 2,280m (By Druk Air)

    Representative of Bhutan Mystical Tours will welcome and receive you on arrival. Introduction and briefing. Evening, free to stroll in the town for photography or transfer to hotel.
    Dinner and overnight in Hotel.

  • Day 2 : Paro Area altitude: 2,280m

    In the morning, you will visit the Drugyel Dzong, the fortress of the victorious Drukpa people, which is now in ruins. After that, you will visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest and most sacred monasteries dating from the introduction of Buddhism in the 800 A.D. After lunch visit dzong and Ta dzong.

  • Day 3 : Excurtion to Takshang Monastery Area altitude: 2,320m | Time taken: 6hrs

    After the breakfast, you will have a hike to the Taktsang Monastery which is around 15 km from the Paro town and is elevated at around 900m above Paro valley. We stop for a rest and light refreshments at the Taktsang Jakhang (cafeteria) and then walk a short distance until we clearly see the legendary Taktsang monastery. Legend has it that Guru Rinpoche, the tantric mystic who introduced Buddhism to Bhutan in 747 AD, flew here on the back of a flying tiger, Dorji Drolo, who is believed to be his favorite consort.

  • Day 4 : Paro - Shana (Start of Trek) | Altitude: 2,850m | Distance: 17kms | Time: 5-6hrs | 360meters ascent

    After breakfast, visit Kichu Lhakhang that was built in 659 by the Tibetan King Srongsen Gampo. Witness the archery match in the town. After lunch, drive to Drukgyal Dzong, 16 km away from the town. This dzong is under construction/ renovation, built by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal to commemorate the victory over the Tibetan invaders in1644; the dzong name’s means indeed “victorious Druk “. The Dzong was used as an administrative center until 1951 when a fire caused by butter lamp destroyed it. We then drive to Shana.

  • Day 5 : Shana - Thangthangka | Altitude: 3,610m | Distance: 22kms | Time: 7-8hrs | 770meters ascent | 10 met

    The trail follows the river through a heavily forested area with a few isolated farmhouses. Pass a junction en-route, where another path leads north over the Tremo La to Tibet
    Camp in a meadow with a stone shelter.

  • Day 6 : Thangthangka - Jangothang | Altitude: 4,080m | Distance: 19kms | Time: 5-6hrs | 480meters ascent

    In the morning, after passing a small army post, the trail slowly leaves the forest line and gradually climbs into a beautiful valley, passing Tegethang, a winter home of yak herdsmen. Lunch will be served in one of these huts. Lots of yaks will be seen today before we arrive at the Jhomolhari base camp (4,115 m). High mountains overlook the camp and visible nearby are the ruins of an old fortress used to guard Bhutan against Tibetan invasions.

  • Day 7 : Jangothang (Halt) Altitude: 4,080m

    Rest day at Jangothang, enjoy the superb view
    Hike to Jumolhari Glacier which is around 4 ½ hours (Back and forth)
    Hike to Jichu Drake Glacier which is around 3 hours (Back and Forth)
    Walk up the mountain between Jumolhari and Jichu Drake,This is 8 hours (Back and forth)

  • Day 8 : Jangothang - Lingshi | Altitude: 4,000m | Distance: 17kms | Time: 6-7hrs

    With spectacular views of the Jhomolhari, Jichu Drake and the Tserim Gang, and now start climbing straight away and after some 3 to 4 hours reach the Nyelela pass at an elevation of 4,700 m. Camp just below Lingshi.

  • Day 9 : Lingshi - Chebisa | Altitude: 3,880m | Distance: 10kms | Time: 5-6 hrs | ascent: 280meters | Descent

    After early breakfast we leave Lingshi, we gently climb gently to reach another delightful village, Gom Yu, which is set right below a 300 m cliff. Another hour walk brings us to a lovely little valley with a huge waterfall at one end of the Shangri La village of Chebisa, where we camp by the side of the river. The walk is an easy one.

  • Day 10 : Chebisa - Shomuthang | Altitude: 4,220m | Distance: 17kms | Time: 6-hrs | ascent: 890meters | descen

    Today we start with quite a stiff climb through high pastures up the Gokula pass (4,320 m) and later we drop through forests of dwarf rhododendron. At the end of the day we head down to the camp near a riverbed. You can enjoy your dinner along with a campfire.

  • Day 11 : Shomuthang - Robluthang | Altitude: 4,160m | Distance: 18kms | Time: 6-7hrs | ascent: 700meters | de

    A long walk over the Jarela pass where we once again get stunning views of the Himalayan ranges. After lunch we will drop steeply down a forest trail to the Tsarigathang valley, At last we now camp at Robluthang. You will also see a large number of yaks grazing around.

  • Day 12 : Robluthang - Lemithang | Altitude: 4,140meters | Distance: 19kms | Time: 6-7hrs | ascent: 850meters

    This is one of the hardest days of the trek. We climb slowly up to Shinchela pass at 4,870 m. and are rewarded with stunning views of mountains, including the spectacular Gang Chen Ta at the head of the valley. On a clear day practically all the mountains on the northern border are visible. Eagles, griffin vultures, blue sheep and yaks abound in this area. We descend down to camp on a lovely spot by the riverbank.

  • Day 13 : Lemithang - Laya | Altitude: 3,840m | Distance: 10kms | Time: 4-5hrs | ascent: 60meters | descent: 3

    We walk along the river, one of the tributaries of the Mochu and through a forest of rhododendron and silver fir and then enter the village of Laya. The people of Laya are famous for their vertical stripe yak hair clothing and their strange conical bamboo hats. The women wear their hair long and with great deal of turquoise and jade jewelry. The features of the people are even more Tibetan/ Mongolian than the Bhutanese who live in the central valleys The rest of the day is spent at leisure or visiting village houses and mixing with the villagers. Good views of the Masagang and the other peaks.

  • Day 14 : Laya (Halt) | Altitude: 3,050m

  • Day 15 : Laya - Koena | Altitude: 3,050m | Distance: 19kms | Time: 6-7hrs | ascent: 260meters | descent: 1,07

    The rail winds along the river valley offers breathtaking views of the crashing river, feeder streams and waterfalls.

  • Day 16 : Koena - Gasa Tsachu | Altitude: 3,050meters | Distance: 19kms | Time: 6-7hrs | ascent: 260meters | d

    Gradually climb up to Balela pass at 3,740 m and then descend to Gasa village and followed by dropping steeply down to the river for an hour and camp near the Hot Spring, a chance for a experiencing a good and healthy hot spring bath.

  • Day 17 : Gasa Tsachu - Goen Damji - Punakha (End of Trek) | Distance: 18kms Time: 5-6hrs | ascent: 470meters

    Trail descends from the high agricultural benches above the Mochu
    The vehicle will pick you up at Damji and drive to Punakha (2 hours)

  • Day 18 : Punakha - Thimphu | Area altitude: 1,310m | Travelling distance: 76kms | Time taken: 3hrs

    After the breakfast we will drive to Punakha valley, via Dochula pass which is situated on an altitude of 3100m and if the weather is clear and permitting, which is not at times, we will stop for a while at Dochula pass to view the Himalaya ranges of Bhutan. We then drive further down and visit the Royal Botanical Garden at Lamperi. The Royal Botanical Park, which is also known as the Rhododendron Garden at Lamperi, is about a half a hour drive towards Punakha and Wangdue valleys, a nature reserve rich in flora and fauna and beautiful in itself. At this park, you can indulge yourself amongst these rich biodiversity.

    After Lunch, visit the magnificent Punakha Dzong, built in 1637 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal which is situated at the confluence of the Pho Chu (Male River) and the Mo Chu (Female River). The Dzong was named Druk Pungthang Dechen Phodrang (Palace of Great Happiness). The war materials captured during the battles with Tibetans are preserved here. Punakha is still the winter residence of the Je-Khenpo (the spiritual head of Bhutan) and this city served as a capital of the nation until 1955. After the visit to Dzong, we have a short excursion to Khamsung Yulley Namgyal Choling Monastery.

  • Day 19 : Thimphu sightseeing Area altitude: 2,320m

    Your day begins with visits to the National Memorial Chorten (stupa) built in the year of 1974 in honor of our 3rd King, late His Majesty Jigme Dorji Wangchuk (The Father of Modern Bhutan), the Buddha Dordenma Statue, the Changangkha Lhakhang, Takin Preserve at Motithang, Sangaygang view point, and the Dupthop Lhakhang; one of the few surviving nunneries in Bhutan. After lunch, visit the National Postal Museum, which is worth a visit for you, can get your own picture on Bhutanese stamp impromptu. Get a photo clicked or give a photo of your near and dear ones and you can get personalized stamps in minutes, followed by a visit to the Painting School where traditional art is still kept alive through the art of painting Thangkas (sacred Buddhist religious scrolls) and the Folk Heritage Museum. In the evening, visit the Tashichho Dzong, seat of the national government and the Central Monastic Body, including the summer residence of the Je Khenpo (Chief Abbot of Bhutan) and finally visit the Handicrafts Emporium followed by shopping at the various souvenir shops of Thimphu city. In the evening you can have a time to stroll around the city.

  • Day 20 : Thimphu - Paro - Departure Area altitude: 2,280m | Travelling distance: 58kms | Time taken: 1hr
