Day 1 : Arrival
You will be met at Victoria Falls Airport, Zimbabwe and transferred to your hotel on the banks of the Zambezi River, near the mighty Victoria Falls.
Check in, settle in and relax whilst you catch your first glimpses of the magnificent Smoke That Thunders first discovered by Dr. David Livingstone and still one of the greatest natural wonders of the world. The flow of water over the Victoria Falls is greatest during the wet months (February to June) but the falls are a magnificent sight at any time of year.
In the late afternoon enjoy an included Sunset Cruise on the Zambezi River where you can see hippos, crocodiles and the abundant bird life.
Day 2 : Victoria Falls
Today enjoy a shared tour of the mighty Victoria Falls and its rainforest, which you can explore on foot as you enjoy the magnificent views.
Afterwards we have an optional visit the local craft market, with balance of day free to participate in one of the many optional activities on offer, such as an elephant-back safari or a helicopter flight over the falls. Or simply relax at the swimming pool and enjoy the facilities of your hotel.
Note: We suggest you take your own raincoat for walking in the rainforest, as those on hire are well used.
On escorted group tours please note that for operational reasons it is sometimes necessary to substitute one hotel with another of similar quality. Porterage of one suitcase is included.
Day 3 : Botswana
Today we leave Victoria Falls and, after completing immigration formalities at Kasane, cross the border into Botswana and travel to our Chobe River game lodge.
Chobe National Park is Botswana’s premier wildlife reserve and is uniquely situated at the confluence of the Zambezi and Chobe Rivers, where four African countries meet – Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Zambia.
After checking in to your lodge, enjoy a boat ride on the Chobe River, which is home to some of Botswana’s most spectacular wildlife, as well as abundant bird life. Game viewing opportunities should present themselves almost immediately in this vast game sanctuary and hopefully you will see elephant, buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, antelope and other river-based wildlife today. Afterwards dine in the atmosphere that only the African bushveld can provide.
Day 4 : Chobe National Park
We rise early today for an open top game drive in Chobe National Park with a ranger.
After returning to the lodge for breakfast, we travel southwards to the vast and remote Makgadikgadi Pans, the largest inland salt-saturated clay pans on earth covering over 6,000 sq.miles (16,000 sq.km), with some frequently covered in water during the wet season.
On an afternoon nature drive (seasonal permitting), we experience how this geological phenomenon changes this remote and inaccessible landscape into a wonderland of surrealistic beauty.
Day 5 : Maun
After breakfast we travel 3-hours to Maun, where we continue for another 3-hours by 4x4 game viewing vehicle to Moremi Game Reserve Game Reserve, situated on the eastern side of the famous Okavango Delta.
Check into your camp, settle in and relax in this pristine conservation area that offers superb land-based game viewing and outstanding birding.
Day 6 : Okavango River
The seasonal Okavango Delta is flooded annually by the great Okavango River, whose waters flow inland from Angola into the vast Kalahari – never finding the sea, but instead forming a great inland delta whose waters are absorbed by the desert.
Comprising 6,000 square miles of crystal clear channels, serene lagoons and a myriad of islands, the Okavango Delta forms a natural oasis that sustains a vast variety of wildlife and birds of all descriptions. The waters are at their height from July to October, forming an amazing wetlands ecosystem that is one of the greatest natural wonders of the world.
Activities centre on early morning and late afternoon game viewing and bird watching, with over 240 different bird species. Depending on the season, mekoro excursions may be available as well as game drives to track some of the larger species that inhabit this region - including buffalo, hippo and elephants.
In the afternoon we take a boat cruise on the Okavango Delta to Xobega Island, where we spend the night in a mobile tented camp. In the evening relax around a blazing fire under balmy African skies.
Day 7 : Moremi Game Reserve
This morning we return by boat across the Okavango Delta to the Mboma boat station.
We return to our lodge driving through Moremi Game Reserve in an open-top game viewing vehicle.
Day 8 : Central Kalahari
An early morning game drive takes us out of Moremi Game Reserve as we travel 3-hours back to Maun. We continue via Ghanzi in the arid Central Kalahari, travelling 4-hours though this vast and beautiful region into Namibia.
The red sands of the Kalahari Desert are the home of the San Bushmen people who survive in these extremely harsh conditions. In the afternoon enjoy a very special experience - an educational walk with Bushmen to learn about the different plants and animals of the Kalahari - an experience that will give you insight into their hunting techniques, traditions and other survival skills.
Day 9 : Windhoek
A full day on the road today, as we travel 7-hours across the Central Kalahari to Windhoek.
Along the way we stop at the cattle farming town of Gobabis that has a huge statue of a Brahman bull at the entrance to the town. Our tour ends in Windhoek with drop off at your hotel.
Day 10 : Departure
Transfer 1-hour to Windhoek Airport for your flight home.
