About Kerala
Kerala regionally referred to as Kovalam, is a state in the south-west region of India on the Malabar coast. It was formed on 1 November 1956 as per the States Reorganization Act by combining various Malayalam-speaking regions.

Spread over 38,863 km2 (15,005 sq mi) it is bordered by Karnataka to the north and north east, Tamil Nadu to the east and south. Kerala is the 12th largest state by population and is divided into 14 districts with the state capital being Thiruvananthapuram.

Malayalam is the most widely spoken and official language of the state. Kerala is one of the most sought after tourist destinations in the world. Located in the southwestern tip of India, Kerala could be reached conveniently by air, road, rail and sea.

By Air:The two international airports in Kerala - Thiruvananthapuram International Airport and Kochi International Airport, and a domestic airport in Kozhikode are strategically located. Cherai, Chinese Fishing Nets Fort Kochi, Jew Town, Marine Drive, Mattancherry Dutch palace,Princess Street,St Francis Church

CHERAI: Located at a distance of around 35 km from Cochin (Kochi), Cherai beach is a picturesque beach, placed at the northern tip of the Vypin Island. An ideal beach to partake in swimming, this beach is an amazing mish-mash of backwaters and sea. Dotted with paddy fields and lush coconut grooves, Cherai beach is a popular attraction of the region. Take a leisure walk, soaking-in the serenity. Do not forget to collect seashells, available in various colors and shapes at the beach. Dolphin spotting is another popular activity here. The beach is quite close to the very popular Chinese fishing nets. Cherai beach has a coastline of 15 km which is very clean and ideal for sunbathing. A 400 meter long pathway has been added recently, lined by mask lamps on the edges, adding more to the charm of the place. A lot of tourist activity can be seen here during late afternoon hour. Close to the beach, there are a number of restaurants and hotels. JEW TOWN : Among the most popular and vibrant places in Kochi is the Jew town, alluring thousands of visitors from all parts of the globe. Basically, this town is a narrow street between Mattancherry Palace and Pardesi Synagogue. Colonial buildings around the street mark the old world charm. With its variety and rarity, the town has a lot to keep you engaged for hours. All the stuff in a way is antique and special. The antiques include beautifully carved wooden furniture and vessels. In fact, its curios are also collected and kept for sale. The unique buys also include some amazing articles of Indian, European, Chinese and Arab. In-addition, there are also some handicraft and garment shops with excellent quality products. Apart from all antiques, the major attraction of Jew town is a big Vaarpu (bronze vessel with handles on both sides). Other than this, Jew town in Kochi also boasts of shimmering jewelry, wooden pillars, crockery, wooden and metal figurines, statuettes and handicrafts like wooden elephants, wall-hangings and paintings. There are also few shops selling you attractive lamps, Chinese urns, door frames and porcelains which were once part of churches and noble families.

MARINE DRIVE: One of the most amazing and fascinating hangout locations in Kochi is Marine drive. Basically a walkway, the place boasts of numerous shopping malls, restaurants and cafes alluring thousands of visitors from all parts of the world. The place is famed as an important hub of economic activities in Kochi. Facing the backwaters of Kochi, the northern part of walkway holds public ground where important exhibitions are hosted. The main attraction of the place is Marine walkway which offers enchanting view of scenic backwaters and Kochi harbor. The walkway starts from High court junction to Rajendra Maidan. Evenings are the best time to be at this great place when you can enjoy prettiness of tranquil sea and the setting sun. The location seems more captivating during nights too. CHINESE FISHING NETS : Introduced by Chinese explorer, Zheng He, Chinese Fishing Nets are one of the unique and unusual methods, used for fishing. These fishing nets are among the most popular tourist attractions in Kochi attracting a lot of visitors to this place. Basically these are shore operated lift nets, approximately 20m high, put up on teak and bamboo poles. The entire structure is a fixed land installation and each net is handled by a group of six men. Set up on the bamboo teaks these are held horizontally with the help of huge mechanisms which are lowered into the sea. Further, for fishing these nets are descended into the sea for few minutes until they are lifted with big fishes. Even today, many local fishermen use these enormous nets in their fishing endeavors. Most importantly, one should not forget to take pictures of these amazingly structured nets and its picturesque surrounding. Located near the Fort Cochin on Vasco da Gama Square, these Chinese Fishing Nets are just few kilometers away from the main Kochi town and can conveniently be accessed by available buses and taxis from main city.

MATTANCHERRY DUTCH PALACE: Renovated by the Dutch in 1663, Mattancherry Dutch Palace is among the most popular and iconic buildings to visit in Kochi. Put up by Portuguese in 1557, the palace is designed in typical Kerala style mansion, Nalukettu (residence of upper classes). The elegant architecture and the magnificent murals of the palace attract a lot of history buffs to this place. The entire two storied palace building boasts of several murals exhibiting the themes taken from Indian epics- Ramayana and Mahabharata and about Hindu gods, particularly Guruvayurappan. Moreover, other attractive murals depict scenes from Kumarasambhavam and great works of Kalidasa. There is also a small temple dedicated to Palayannur Bhagwati in the central courtyard of the palace and two other shrines dedicated to Lord Krishna and Shiva. You also get to see some amazing attires, turbans and weapons offering you a glimpse of lifestyle of royal families. The Mattancherry Dutch Palace in Kochi is open on all days of the week from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, except Fridays. Few kilometers away from main land, palace can be easily accessed by hired taxis or cars.

FORT KOCHI: With its European heritage and a temperament that shy away some of the best cosmopolitan towns of India, Fort Kochi is crowned as the jewel of Kerala. Existing as a small region in the city of Kochi, but a major tourist attraction, it beautifully retains the charm of its bygone era. Famous as Old Kochi or West Kochi, the region possesses a huge assortment of architectures that reflects its long history of foreign invasions and settlements. A Perfect place for history buffs and Europen charm, Fort Kochi houses various edifices of the bygone era. ST FRANCIS CHURCH : A perfect specimen of Portugese architecture, St Francis Church in Cochin is believed to be first of its kind amongst the numerous European churches built in India over the time. Being built at the start of 15th century by Portugese traders, a reflection of the colonial past of the region can be seen in its architecture. Owing to a strong historical significance, the renowned church has turned into one of the most popular tourist attractions in Cochi. During its original days, St Francis Church was just a simple wooden structure. However, when Portugese viceroy, Dom Francisco Almedia came up with the idea of reconstructing the church to the King of Cochin, he agreed. This culminated into the reconstruction of St Francis church into a stony structure in the year 1516.

Day wise Itinerary

  • Day 1 : Arrival at Cochin

    Welcome to Gods Own Country, upon arrival our ever smiling representative will greet you and will later escort you to the hotel in Cochin. Check in and relax for a while amidst the comforts of your room. Later, move for a half day city leisurely walk around the city of Cochin. Cochin which is having the best preserved history of colonial times and the ideal way to bring it alive is to take a walk down memory lane. Surrender to the comfort of your bedroom at the hotel for the night as your tour starts the day after.

  • Day 2 : Cochin to Munnar

    After breakfast, check out from hotel and proceed to Munnar. On arrival, check in to your hotel and spend the day at leisure. Have a comfortable overnight stay at the hotel.

  • Day 3 : Munnar

    After a hearty breakfast, go on a sightseeing tour of Munnar visiting the Eravikulam National Park, Mattupetty Dam, Old Munnar Town and the town market. Enjoy the rest of the day at leisure. Stay overnight at the hotel.(Eravikulam National Park is shut from 15 Jan to 15 Mar; during these dates Park visit cannot be done but all other sightseeing shall be provided as per itinerary).

  • Day 4 : Munnar to Thekkady

    After a delectable breakfast, check out of the hotel. Drive to Thekkady and reach by afternoon. Check into the hotel and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure or take an optional boat cruise in Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary. Stay overnight at the hotel.

  • Day 5 : Thekkady to Alleppey

    After an appetizing breakfast, check out of the hotel. Drive to Alleppey and reach by afternoon. Check into the hotel and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure or take an optional cruise on the backwaters. Stay overnight at the hotel.

  • Day 6 : Alleppey - Kovalam

    Drive to Kovalam and on arrival, check into the hotel and enjoy the beach's of Kovalam.

  • Day 7 : Kovalam

  • Day 8 : Kovalam - Trivandrum
