TOUR DESCRIPTION
Haa is located in the western region of Bhutan and very close to the international airport at Paro. To get to Haa you must travel two hours by road and cross the Chelela mountain pass, Bhutan’s highest road pass. With its pristine forests and rugged hills, Haa is also found to be an excellent location to enjoy some of the best hiking in the Himalayas. Set among pristine lakes and high alpine valleys, the Haa summer festival is a lively and uplifting celebration of traditional living-culture, nomadic lifestyles, unique Bhutanese cuisine, traditional sports and religious performances. It provides unparalleled insight into the lives and traditions of Bhutan’s nomadic herders. Immerse yourself in this one of a kind experience by playing the local sports, sampling the delicious home-cooked cuisine and enjoying traditional songs and dances all while imbibing the heady local liquor (Ara).
At the Haa Summer festival, you will be able to see the rare White Poppy (Meconopsis superba). This flower typically grows to 1-1.5m in height at high altitudes around 4000m. The White Poppy is endemic to Haa and cannot be found anywhere else in the world. Join us on this fantastic journey into the Mythic Valley of the Guardian Spirit.

Day wise Itinerary

  • Day 1 : Arrival in Paro to Thimphu

    The Flight to Paro gives you a breathtaking view of Major Himalaya peaks such as Everest, Kanchenjunga and Makalu, and Bhutan’s own snowy peaks, the sacred Jhomolhari, Jichu Drake and Tsherimgang on a clear day.
    As you enter Paro valley, you will sweep past forested hills with the silvery Pa Chu (Paro river) meandering down the valley below. Paro Dzong (fortress) and Ta Dzong (watchtower) on the hills above the town will be a fine sight. Our team will be there to receive you at Paro airport as you exit the airport after completion of arrival formalities. Our team will warmly welcome you by offering the scarf and then take you for a lunch depending upon the flight schedule either at Paro or Thimphu.
    After lunch,
    Visit Buddha Dordenma Statue, this massive statue of Buddha Shakyamuni measures in at a height of 51.5 meters, making it one of the largest statues of Buddha in the world. The statue is made of bronze and is gilded in gold. The Buddha Dordenma is located atop a hill in Kuenselphodrang Nature Park and overlooks the Southern entrance to Thimphu Valley.
    Followed by a visit to Thimphu Memorial Chorten built in the memory of our late 3rd king of Bhutan Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. It holds paintings and statues which provide a very rare insight into Buddhist Philosophy.
    And with evening, a visit to the massive Trashi Choe Dzong. The Dzong was the site of the lavish formal coronation of the fifth king in 2008 and hosts the country biggest annual festival known as Thimphu Tsechu. It is the Office of the King, Prime Minister, Some Ministry and religious body of Thimphu district. It is also a summer residence of the religious head, Jekhenpo. (Overnight at Thimphu).

  • Day 2 : Thimphu to Punakha

    After breakfast,
    You will embark on a leisurely hour-long walk to the 18 Century Wangditse monastery, situated atop Thimphu. It is a nature walk and offers you with the spectacular view of the Majestic Trashichoe Dzong, the National Assembly, and whole Thimphu valley. On your way back from Wangditse, stop by the Motithang Takin Preserve to see the Takin, Bhutan’s National Animal.
    Followed by a visit to Thimphu Changangkha Lhakhang, the fortress-like temple perched on a ridge above central Thimphu hums with pilgrim activity. It is traditionally popular among the parents with newborns. They come here to get auspicious names for their newborns or blessings for their young children from the protector deity Tamdrin. You too can get an auspicious name for your children from this temple.
    And a visit to Folk Heritage Museum, a living museum of rural life which provides visitors and tourists with fascinating insights into the Bhutanese material culture and way of life. Our team will then take you for a lunch After lunch,
    You will then depart for Punakha, the Ethereal Ancient Capital. The drive will take about 3 hours. Enroute you will stop by the Dochula Pass (10,100feet). This pass is a popular location among visitors as it offers a stunning 360-degree panoramic view of Bhutanese Himalayan range. The view is especially scenic on a clear day with snowcapped mountains forming a majestic backdrop to the tranquility of the 108 Druk Wangyal Chortens
    (Overnight at Punakha)

  • Day 3 : Punakha Sightseeing

    Early morning,
    Our team will drive to Yabesa village from where you will hike to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten through rice fields. The Chorten is Perched high on a hill on the bank of the river and houses paintings belonging to Nyingmapa Traditions. From the site, you will get to see the spectacular view of the surrounding mountains and the valley below.
    Followed by a walk to one of the longest Suspension bridge in Bhutan for you to have a heart-pumping experience and enjoy the view of the village nearby with a river below. Our team will then take you for a lunch.
    After lunch,
    Visit Punakha Dzong, the “Palace of Great Happiness”. It is the winter headquarters of the Je Khenpo and hundreds of monks who move En masse from Thimphu to this warmer location. Built at the confluence of two Major River in Bhutan Pho Chhu (Male River) and Mo Chu (Female Rover), it is arguably one of the beautiful fortresses in the country. The fortress is linked with major occasions in the country including the Royal Weeding of the current king of Bhutan.
    Followed by a visit to Chimi Lhakhang, the temple of the divine madman Drukpa Kuenley. He inherited the Divine Madman title since he revolted against the orthodox Buddhism in his time. He taught the people that religion is an inner feeling and it’s not necessary that one should be an ordained monk. He is also considered a symbol of fertility and most childless couples go to his temple for blessing. (Overnight at Punakha)

  • Day 4 : Punakha to Paro

    After Breakfast, drive to Paro with Lunch en route. Upon arrival at Paro. Visit the National Museum, to see the collections dating back to ancient times. Followed by a visit to 17 century Paro Dzong (Fortress) on foot and continue walking through the oldest wooden bridge still in use. Our team will take you to one of the popular restaurants in the country in the middle of the farm for you to enjoy the cultural show. The cultural show includes a programs being performed by our team on traditional dances, Play, and song. You will also take part in the song. and enjoy to the fullest before you have your dinner. Our team will then take you to your hotel for rest and preparation for the next day. (Overnight at Paro).

  • Day 5 : Paro to Haa

    After Breakfast,
    Begin your journey to Haa (via Chelela Pass) (13,083 feet) through blue pine & rhododendron forest. Located in South West of Paro and covering an area of roughly 1706 sq. km. Haa is the smallest Dzongkhag in the country. This tiny region is one of the most beautiful and isolated areas in the kingdom, adorned with pristine alpine forests and tranquil mountain peaks.
    Haa is the ancestral home of the Queen Grandmother and the illustrious Dorji family. Haa valley retains the air of an unspoiled, primeval forest. The wooded hills of Haa valley provide an ideal location for hiking and leisure walks. Walking around the valley and hiking through pristine blue pine and rhododendrons forest is an enjoyable way to spend the day when visiting.
    Our team will stop at Chelela pass, the highest motorable pass in Bhutan for you to have a spectacular view of the majestic Mt. Jomolhari (24,035 feet) & Jichu Drakey (22,930 feet). Upon reaching Haa Valley Visit the quiet, timeless Haa valley. (Overnight at Haa)

  • Day 6 : Haa Summer Festival

    Whole day attend annual Haa summer festival and explore the valley and greater pace.

  • Day 7 : Haa to Paro

    Checkout from the hotel and drive to Paro, on arrival we will hike to Tiger Nest temple, the most revered temple in the country that literally hangs on a granite cliff overlooking the Paro Valley. Evening at leisure or explore the tiny Paro town. (Overnight at Paro)

  • Day 8 : Departure

    Transfer to airport for your departure flight. Our tour staff will bid you farewell at the airport.
