The southern part of Ethiopia does not belong among the historical lands of the Ethiopian Empire.
Towards the end of the 19th century, Menelik – the ruler of the Shewa province and the future Emperor of Ethiopia – decided to conquer the lands neighboring Ethiopia to the south, to the east, and a relatively narrow area located to the west.
The lands conquered at that time constitute more than half of contemporary Ethiopia. They are mostly inhabited by Muslims (in the eastern part) and even today the largest number of followers of traditional African religions inhabits the south and the west of the country. The religious situation and the different ethnic mixture in this area were among the features which for many decades distinguished them from the rest of the Empire.

Day wise Itinerary

• Day 1 : MONDAY OR WEDNESDAY):  ARRIVAL TO ADDIS ABABA

  Addis Ababa means “new flower” and is Ethiopia’s largest city. Sitting at an elevation ranging from 7,000 to 8,300 feet, it is a unique mixture of new, tall buildings mingled with traditional house
  Upon arrival in Addis Ababa, you will be met at the airport and transfer to Hotel. Rest and relax at your hotel Spend the night at Jupiter Hotel

• Day 2 : Butajira

  Drive over Butajira via melka Konture Archeological sites, Adadi Maryam Church and Teya stela To Arbaminch ,en route stop to see the wolaita tribes .O/N Paradise Lodge

• Day 3 : At Arbaminch

  Morning visit Nechsar Park for gazelles, zebras and and at Chencha Village beautiful huts and the Dorze villages especially the 12 mts heights bamboo tukul and their way of making Shema' white dress’ and more other colorful thread dresses .
  P.M: Afternoon boat trip on Lake Chamo to see hippos and crocodiles. O/N Paradise Lodge

• Day 4 : Jinka

  Drive to Jinka on the way visit Tsemay and Bena tribes at keyafer. In Jinka Visit the Ari village & Museum. O/N Orit Hotel or Omo eco lodge

• Day 5 : Mago Park

  Drive to Mago Park early morning seeing some wild life and Mursi peoples at their villages drive back to Jinka for lunch afternoon Leave to Turmi and then drive to Omorate to visit the Dasenech people who are living on the banks of river Omo, where they cross the river using a tree trunk to go to the west cost where the majority of the tribe live. Late afternoon explore villages of the Hammer around Turmi O/N Turmi Lodge or Buska lodge http://www.buskalodge.com/

• Day 6 : Karo villages

  Drive to Karo villages, the Karo wear an elaborate hairstyle sculpted in Chignon of dried mud adorned with Ostrich feathers. They always carry a wooden pillow to protect their hairstyle when they sleep.
  Aftenoon attend the Hammer market either on Turmi on Monday or Dimeka on Saturday.

• Day 7 : Yabello

  Depart to Yabello en route konso villages. Konso is known for 'Totomes' a grave marks and terracing farms O/N Yabello Hotel

• Day 8 : Borena

  Drive to El sod for Borena people and stop at Dubluck and we could see at noon the Borena people taking their thousands of cattle’s for watering near by the singing water wells. 
  Leave Yabelo to Awassa over the coffee land of Yergachefe ,
  Overnight Awassa Lewi.

• Day 9 : Awassa

  Morning fish Market at Awassa and you have free time in Awassa to relax and enjoy yourself you can walk or swim…

• Day 10 : Departure

  after your breakfast drive to Langano and Ziway lakes for more bird watching.
  Drive back to Addis stopping at Debrezeit Lake Town. Drive back to Addis Ababa
