About Thamsar trek
Thamsar Pass Trek in Kangra Himachal is one of the most alluring passes in the Dhauladhar. Thamsar Pass is a gateway to the Bara Bhangal village tucked in the blissful Kangra valley in Himachal Pradesh. This trek still remains one of the very less travelled paths in the region and also known as Shepherd Trek. The trail offers trekkers to explore the life of Gaddi People, who are the natives of the valley. It is certainly one of the most delightful and picturesque treks in Dhauladhar Region.
A tough gradient, remoteness and high altitude of the pass makes this trek a challenge for all the trekkers.
Best time to visit Thamsar pass trek
The Thamsar Pass trek can be accessed anytime between mid-June and mid-October. Starting June till August, there are high chances of witnessing heavy snow on the passes and the region of Panarthu &Palachak may face monsoon showers

Day wise Itinerary

• Day 1 : Kangra - Bir Chowk - Barot

  Arrival at Bir chowk , the group will be received by our representative at Ahju Swimming pool restaurant , welcome drinks and freshen up Breakfast. Then group will be escorted to Barot valley, Lunch at barot check in at river side camping, familiarisation and acclimatization at 6008 feet. Planning for the entire trek trip and tea and snacks, then rest a while be ready for evening bonfire, optional drinks and cultural evening, then dinner and retire to your tents.

• Day 2 : Barot-Badagraam-Palachak (08Km Trek)

  Early morning after a breakfast , drive to Badagran (7200ftm) through the narrow but sturdy road, leading you through villages and breath-taking views as the valley broadens up to its grandiose and full splendour as the views leave you in awe. The road ends at Badagraam, our trek start from here , after a few steps we entered the badagraam. The village and it's old and charming wooden houses as we are greeted by children saying "Namaste Then the short trek proceed to Rajgundha (8200ft)through, It is a beautiful walk through terrace farming of pulses and vegetable( rajma, pahari potatoes) then after an hour descending down and crossing the river UHL on a wooden bridge which is hanging on the ropes tightened with pillar on the side of the river uhl there is a climb upwards from there along a nullah as you reach Rajgundha & Kukur Gundha(twin villages) . From Rajgundha there is an easy trek to Plachak along the deep woods, over magnificent views and lush green landscapes along the river, which leaves the visitor enchanted and again crossing the river uhl by wooden bridge made by Shepherds to cross their sheep’s and horses. There is a small hut run by a nepali people from 37 years and a forest guest house in Plachak. We will pitch our tents and enjoy the beauty of nature and stars in a clear blue sky, never as abundantly visible, while the gushing river nearby and its roar keeping things exciting till late night. After some bonfire and dinner, we retire in our comfortable tents.

• Day 3 : Palachak-Panerthu (08kmtrek)

  Early morning wake up, freshen up and have a breakfast after pack our backpack trek further to our campsite Panerthu. Trekking further half an km from Palachak towards Jodhi. It is a big treeless expanse, we can see the uhl river down below another 01km gradually decent will take us to the uhl river level , where we can see the glacial bed. We go along the river approximately 06km till we reach Panerthu a small hamlet. We pitch our tent here for the night, we enjoy a well earned river side bonfire have dinner and retired to the comfort of our sleeping bags.

• Day 4 : Panerthu-Thamsar Pass-Panerthu (12Km)

  Early morning wake up , freshen up and have a highly nutrition protein light breakfast since it is being going to the most challenging ascent up to Bherpal got 13287feet (a huge rock shelter). From Panerthu a rocky path makes a steep climb for 3 Km to Bherpal got Bherpal is a last habitation consisting of a few scattered shepherds and their family. After the now we face the most challenging serpentine steep ascent rite up to kishan bali, from kishan bali another 500meter very tough steep ascent take up to our Dream point Thamsar pass, now we are at the top the Bada bhangal region with 360 degree view down below. . Two small peaks, Lantern (16624 feet) and Thamsar (16670 feet) can be seen on either side of the pass. We can stay on a top only for a little while for photographs, because in that sub zero temperature afternoon snow blizzard normally occurs, so we have rush back for our return journey to our campsite panerthu for night stay.

• Day 5 : Panerthu – Palachak (08km trek)

  After breakfast We will start descending towards Palachak It will be a once in a lifetime experience to walk on glaciers and snow and then cross the waterfall at Guhardi to reach the verdant meadows of Panhartu. Enjoy the views around and spend the night in the tents with the warmth of bonfire.

• Day 6 : Palachak – Rajgundha(07km trek)

  Early breakfast we start descend to Rajgundha via same trek inside the deep forest reach Rajgundha & Kukur Gundha(twin villages) . Rajgundha lies embedded beneath the dense pine forest surrounded by the high mountain. Night stay at Rajgundha in Ishant Guest house musical night, optional drinks & Bonfire could also be arranged depending upon the musical band availability.

• Day 7 : Rajgundha – Badagraam (06km trek)

  Early Breakfast we start our trek to descend to Badagraam (Starting point) hope on our vechile to return journey.
  The trek tour will end with the Unshaded memories.
