This recently explored route makes for an exciting alternative to the classic Inca Trail. We see Mollepata, the towering mountain of Salkantay and the town of Santa Teresa, with its crystal-clear hot springs, before finally arriving at Machupicchu. This route is another option to trek to Machupicchu. The landscapes are beautiful, with plenty of flora and fauna and impressive mountains.Sleeping bag (quality down bags are rentable from our office at a minimal price).

Day 1 : Soraypampa - Huyrac
Early in the morning, passengers are picked up from their hotels in private transportation and we travel to Soraypampa to begin our trek. After breakfast, we prepare our gear and begin hiking through what is known as the Pampa of Salkantay. The highest point on our trip, a pass between Mt Salkantay and Mt Umantay, is 4500m. From here we can see amazing, snow-covered peaks. After two hours, we have a good lunch, a rest, and continue trekking on to our first camp in Huayrac. (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner).
Day 2 : Huayrac - Santa Teresa
We have breakfast very early in the morning and begin trekking along a trail lined with a wide variety of flora and fauna as we make our way from Huayrac to the community of Arranniyuc, and then continue our descent and later check out the hot springs of Santa Teresa. Along the way, we get to see a great variety of orchids and amazing waterfalls. We camp just outside of the pueblo of Santa Teresa, and not too far from the local hot springs, where you can take a refreshing soak. (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner).
Day 3 : Santa Teresa - Aguas Calientes
After breakfast we begin our trek, going through plantations of coffee, bananas, coca leaves, and other exotic plants. After a few hours, we can look up an adjacent mountain and see a glimpse of the actual ruins of Machupicchu! We take a short break here to savor the moment: our first glimpse of this magical place. We then take a short train ride to Aguas Calientes, where we have dinner and enjoy a night in a hotel with a private bathroom. Passengers can also take the option to visit the local hot springs. (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner).
Day 4 : Aguas Calientes - Machupicchu - Cusco
We have breakfast in the hotel and then make the fourty-five minute trek up to Machupicchu. With luck, we see the sunrise on this ancient ruin, before beginning our two hour guided tour. If time permits, you can choose to take a short hike up Waynapicchu, a rocky peak which towers over Machupicchu. In the afternoon, we begin our descent and return to Cusco in train, arriving at about 8:30pm. Passengers are then returned to their hotels. (Breakfast).
