Day 1 : Arrival
You will be met at Victoria Falls Airport and transferred to your hotel near the mighty Zambezi River.
Check in, settle in and relax whilst you catch your first glimpses of the magnificent Smoke That Thunders first discovered by Dr. David Livingstone and still one of the greatest natural wonders of the world. The flow of water over the Victoria Falls is greatest from February to June following the summer rains, but they are a magnificent sight at any time of year.
Note: As there is no lifting equipment at the airport, you will be carried on and off the aircraft using an aisle chair.
Day 2 : Victoria Falls
Today we visit the mighty Victoria Falls and its rainforest, which offers magnificent views.
Afterwards you can participate in other optional activities such as an elephant interaction.
In the late afternoon enjoy a Sunset Cruise on the Zambezi River where you may see hippos, crocodiles and abundant bird life.
Note: We suggest you take your own raincoat for the rainforest, as those on hire are well used. On the Zambezi cruise you will need to be lifted into the boat, so this excursion is only suitable for manual wheelchairs. There is no accessible toilet on board.
Day 3 : Zambezi River
At leisure to relax at your hotel on the banks of the mighty Zambezi River.
Day 4 : Chobe National Park
Today take a shared 2-hour transfer to the Botswana border at Kasane. After completing immigration formalities, continue to your game lodge near the Chobe River.
Chobe National Park is Botswana’s premier wildlife reserve and is uniquely situated at the confluence of the Zambezi and Chobe Rivers, where four African countries meet – Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Zambia.
After checking in to your lodge, enjoy a boat ride on the Chobe River, which is home to some of Botswana’s most spectacular wildlife, as well as abundant bird life. Game viewing opportunities should present themselves almost immediately in this vast game sanctuary and hopefully you will see elephant, buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, antelope and other river-based wildlife today. Afterwards dine in the atmosphere that only the African bushveld can provide
Note: You will need to be lifted down a few steps onto the jetty and into the boat, so this activity is not suitable for very heavy guests or power chairs.
Day 5 : Chobe National Park
Rise at dawn to take advantage of the best game viewing conditions of the day and enjoy a thrilling open-top game viewing drive with a lodge ranger.
Chobe National Park is home to vast herds of buffalo and elephant, as well as numerous other species which roam in profusion and diversity. During the dry season, vast elephant herds migrate from both south and north to congregate in their thousands along the Chobe River – the largest concentration of elephants in the whole of Africa. Also hope to see lion, leopard, cheetah, giraffe, hippo, kudu, crocodiles, antelope, waterbuck, warthogs, baboons and many other interesting animals before returning to your lodge.
In the afternoon, enjoy another game-viewing boat ride on the Chobe River.
Note: You need some upper body strength for this safari, as you will need to be lifted into the front seat of the game viewing vehicle and into the boat, so this holiday is not suitable for very heavy guests or power chairs. Children < 6 are not allowed on open top game drives.
Day 6 : Table Mountain
Transfer to Kasane Airport for your onward flight.
You will be met at Cape Town Airport and transferred to your hotel in this beautiful city, within sight of Table Mountain.
Check in and relax in your magnificent surroundings.
Day 7 : Cape Town
Today your guide will collect you for a full day tour of Cape Town.
We start with a short tour to see the key historical and architectural sites of the "Mother City". Weather permitting, we will then ascend Table Mountain by cable car to enjoy one of the world’s most famous views (alternatively we drive up Signal Hill, with its wonderful view point).
We continue to the fishing village of Hout Bay, where we take a boat ride to see the Cape Fur seals at Seal Island.
Afterwards we visit Kirstenbosch Gardens, nestled on the eastern slopes of Table Mountain and regarded as one the most beautiful botanic gardens in the world. Bequeathed to the nation by Cecil John Rhodes, the garden was established 1913. There is an avenue of camphor trees, a beautiful protea and fynbos garden, useful plants garden, sculpture garden and a dell garden as well as a world class collection of indigenous South African flora. Wonderful summer sunset concerts are held in the gardens on Sunday evenings from December to March.
Note: For Seal Island you will be lifted in your manual wheelchair into the boat, so this will not be possible for very heavy guests, nor for power chairs. There is no accessible toilet on the boat.
Day 8 : Cape Peninsula
Today your guide will collect you for a full day tour to the beautiful Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve.
Enjoy wonderful ocean views as we drive around the Cape Peninsula to naval Simonstown, where we visit the resident penguin colony at Boulders Beach.
We continue to Cape Point where we hope to see baboons, ostrich and perhaps even dolphins or whales in season (July to November). We take an accessible funicular ride up to the Old Lighthouse, before returning via spectacular Chapman’s Peak Drive to Cape Town.
Day 9 : Stellenbosch Winelands
Today enjoy a full day excursion to the beautiful Stellenbosch Winelands.
Our first stop is at the Cheetah Outreach project in Somerset West, a community-based programme seeking to raise awareness of the plight of the cheetah and campaign for its survival.
We continue to the historic university town of Stellenbosch, with its open air craft market and wonderful museums, before continuing to a wine estate for a light lunch (own account). We visit another wine estate along this famous wine route to taste its fine wines, before returning to Cape Town.
Day 10 : Cape Town
At leisure to relax and explore the "Mother City" of Cape Town with your guide, who will provide your transport (pay any entrance fees locally).
Many activities are available in this beautiful city. You can explore the vibrant Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, visit world famous Kirstenbosch Gardens or simply relax on golden Camps Bay beach – the choice is yours.
