Airport Security Regulations

• Atleast one current government issued photo ID such as passport, driver?s license, military ID etc are required of adults and children travelling alone. Expired identification are rejected.
• Only passengers who have valid tickets are permitted to go beyond screener checkpoints. People who attend to those in a need of medical assistant are allowed to go through secure gate areas.
• Passengers who have booked their tickets online i.e. E-tickets need to have proper documentation from air carriers (proof of reservation).

• Always check with your air carrier for specific check-in times especially if you are a carry-on traveler. During peak time and vacations screening lines are longer.
• Prepare your carry-on items, check-in luggage and your person for security screening.
• You should not hesitate in answering any question as that can give a wrong impression. Never accept anything from strangers and keep your luggage and personal belongings with yourself.
• For any metal item except slip keys, coins, pens etc the metal detector can set off sensitive detectors. Reduce the number of metal items on your person to minimize the screening time.
• For any medical metal implants carry a proper identity.
• Women wearing underwire bras may face some problem. A female security agent can be politely requested to search your person, however, this may cause some delay.
• Carry-on electronic items such as: laptops, cameras, cell phones, etc. may be required to open and activate.
• Chemical and compound resides can also be checked by "sniffer" scanners which are equipped at some of the airports.
• Don't lock your carry on luggage until you pass screening areas to avoid further delay. Another alternative is the wrapped items in check in luggage.

These are a list of items that are prohibited at the airport :

• Any length knives.
• Puncturing and cutting items including corkscrews.
• Flammable liquids and containers under pressure such as aerosols but there are exceptions such as perfumes, deodorants, etc. which should not exceed 16 fluid ounces.
• Matches and lighters may only be carried on your person. Still, "Strike-anywhere" matches and lighters having flammable liquid reservoirs such as disposable lighters are prohibited.
• Toy weapons, Sports equipment such as golf clubs, bats, pool cues, etc. and power tools must be checked.
• Any item that is used as a weapon or may be considered dangerous may be prohibited whatsoever its original use may be.

Just relax, go ahead and get your bags checked!

• If you have a luggage to be checked, always check with your air carrier for specific timings of arriving at airport as this procedure takes a quiet of time.
• To avoid security screening between connecting flights, have your luggage checked through final destination.
• Some airlines at some airports provide Curbside luggage check-in. Their current procedures can be verified from the arrival and departure airports.
• Have identity luggage tags attached to each bag.
• Don't pack any suspicious item as some airports are also equipped with X-Ray check in luggage.
• For random hand searches preformed at security check points, keep your check in bags unlocked.

Depending on the length of your flight itinerary, pack snacks or a lunch or more, especially if you are traveling with children. Airlines are cutting back on everything and that includes food as well. Here are a few points that you should keep in mind while thinking of food in your air travels :

• Full service food malls can be availed at airports but that will require leaving secure gate areas and to get back it will require going through security checkpoints, long lines again. This can possibly result into missed connections.
• You need to be prepared to open food containers or take a sip of any liquids taken aboard.
• Powdery products like coffee creamers, artificial sugars and even baby formula should be avoided unless properly packaged as such products may be confiscated.

In the end, we can just say that regardless of what happens, be patient, take a deep breath, and realize that airline and airport employees are just as bothered as you are. Just remember these security measures are imposed for your benefit and safety as a traveler!
