Delhi, being the capital of India, is a very interesting destination which is loved by the tourists for the variety it offers. Travellers get surprised to see the unique cohabitation of sprawling shopping malls, dingy by-lanes and majestic monuments here. It is also home to 3 UNESCO world heritage sites- Humayun’s Tomb, Qutub Minar and Red fort. Watching them from close is a wonderful experience. Book a cab for an enjoyable tour.
You will be picked up from your preferred location or hotel in Jaipur in a sophisticated cab to Delhi trip. Jaipur to Delhi distance is 272 km which takes about 5.30 hours which is a pleasant ride by car.
9 am: In the first half of the day we explore Red fort, Jama Masjid Humayun’s tomb and Rajghat.
Red Fort: In 1638 Mughal king Shah Jahan moved his capital in Delhi from Agra and started the construction of magnificent red fort. There are halls for king’s private meetings. Visitors get stunned once they see meticulously planned design of this spectacular site. Visiting hours are 9:30 am to 4:30 pm daily, except Monday.
Jama Masjid: Jama Masjid was built by Shah Jahan between 1644 and 1656. Its capacity is about 25000 people, more than any other mosque in India. Red stone has been used substantially in it which helps it standing all seasons of the year. Visiting hours are 7 am to 12 pm and 1.30 pm to 6.30 pm. It opens daily but closed for the tourists during the prayer time.
Humayun’s Tomb: Mughal emperor Humayun died in 1556. His tomb was built in 1565 AD nine years after his death by his senior widow. It is the first distinct example of proper Mughal style of architecture which was inspired by Persian style. It was the first ever garden style tomb to be built in India. Its opening time is 6 am to 6 pm, every day.
Raj Ghat: Situated in a serene atmosphere, Raj Ghat is the memorial of Mahatma Gandhi in the form of a black stone platform. A flame relentlessly burns at one end of the platform.
Lunch. 2:00: Post lunch we explore India gate, Rashtrapati Bhawan, Lotus temple and Qutub Minar.
India Gate: Unveiled in 1931, India Gate is a great architectural marvel in Delhi built in the memory of 80000 Indian soldiers who lost their lives fighting for the British army during the World War I. A perpetual flame, ‘Amar Jawan Jyoti’ is a major attraction here, burning since 1971 in the memory of the brave soldiers. It is open for the tourists daily.
Rashtrapati Bhawan: Delhi’s Rashtrapati Bhawan has a breathtaking architecture. It is the home of the President of India. Globally, few residences of the Head of the State will match its hugeness and glory. The building was formerly known as Viceroy's House. It was renamed as Rashtrapati Bhavan in 1950 when Rajendra Prasad became India’s first President. The visiting days of Rashtrapati Bhavan are Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Lotus Temple: Lotus temple or Bahai temple is world’s most famous cultural architecture. It was built in the year 1986. Ardishir Rustampur of Hyderabad gave away his life savings in the year 1953 for its construction. Its Iranian architect Fariborz Sahb has won many global awards for it. Except Monday it opens on all days from 9 am to 7 pm (summers) and 9 am to 5.30 pm (winters).
Qutab Minar: The 238 feet tall masterpiece, Qutab Minar, was initiated in 1192 by Qutab-ud-din Aibak, and completed by Iltutmish. Some say it was erected to signify the beginning of the Islamic rule in India while others say it served as a tower to the muezzins to call the people to prayer. The Quwwat-us-Islam Mosque in the complex is the 1st mosque to be built in India. Its opening timing is 10 am to 5 pm, Monday to Saturday.
After exploring major spots we begin back trip to Jaipur.
