Climate & Geography

As Somalia is very close to the equator, its climate does not see any major change throughout the year. The conditions are perennially hot with the monsoon winds and irregular rainfall providing breaks from the heat. The average temperature in Somalia ranges between 30 degrees Celsius and 40 degrees Celsius. Northern Somalia witnesses the highest fluctuations in temperature where average temperatures in July reach 45 degrees Celsius and reach below the freezing point in December.

The coastline of Somalia is the longest in the continent of Africa. The Somalian terrain mostly consists of plateaus, highlands and plains.

The northern part of Somalia is marked by the mountain ranges from where the plateaus start from. Shimbiris, with a height of about 2,416 meters, is the highest peak in Somalia.

 

Mogadishu, which is popularly known as Hamar (Xamar), is the capital of Somalia. It is the largest city in Somalia and has a rich history.


Suitable Visiting Seasons :

The periods between June and August and between January and early February follow the rainy season and have more the pleasant temperatures compared to the rest of the period. These periods are the best time to visit Somalia.
