Djibouti is situated in the north eastern part of Africa. It is surrounded by Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia, Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. With a population of 818,159 (2009 census), Djibouti is one among the least populated countries of Africa. Beaches, Lakes and the old towns provide the major attractions to the tourist.
Djibouti has a coastline which is 314 km long. Highlands and plateaus randomly mark the terrain of Djibouti which is mostly a semi desert. In spite of the low rainfall in the area, Djibouti is popular for its lakes, especially Lake Abbe and Lake Asal.The hot season lasts from May to September and the temperatures reach and average of 37 degrees Celsius during daytime, while the warm season, which lasts from October to April witnesses average temperature of 31 degrees Celsius. The highlands witness cold temperatures of about 10 degrees Celsius during the nights.
