Climate & Geography

Laos witnesses a tropical climate. Laos has three seasons of rainy, hot and cold. The period between May and November is rainy season which is distinct and the period between December and April forms the hot and cold season. This latter period is dry and marked by a higher temperature.

Vietnam is the neighboring country to the east of Laos, China and Burma to the northwest, Thailand to the west, and Cambodia to the south. Laos is situated between latitudes 14 degrees and 23 degrees N and longitudes 100 degrees and 108 degrees E. Laos is geographically divided into the three geographical areas of north, central, and south.

Territory & Capital : Laos is covered by dense forests, mountains and rivers. The highest point of Laos is Phou Bia which is at a height of 2,818 meters (9,245 ft.). Vientiane is the capital and the largest city of Laos.

Suitable Visiting Seasons : The period between November and February is the best time to visit Laos. The climate is most favorable during this time. Most of the festivals of Laos are also celebrated in the months of December and February.

Transportation

Highways and waterways are the preferred modes of transport in Laos. The infrastructure of the railways is being developed. However, it currently connects only a few of the destinations in Laos.
