Saadani National Park is the only wildlife sanctuary that is bordering with the Indian Ocean. The park was formerly known as Sadaani Game Reserve. Saadani encompasses Wami River and Zaraninge Forest.
It is such a heavenly park that allows beach meeting the wildlife, where you can experience both in one location. Saadani is the 13th largest national park in Tanzania, covering approximately 1,100 sq kms.
There are many villages surrounding the park. The Saadani village was an important harbor town and a slave trading center of East Africa. Currently, the village has an inhabitants of around 800 people, who have their principal livelihood of fishing.
It has a coastal vegetation such as palm trees and Tidal mangrove forest. Around the Wami River, there are large sycamore figs. The open woodlands mirrors a part of Selous Game Reserve, while the vast grassy areas represent the small Serengeti.
