Bhatkal Beach located in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka, is a popular tourist destination that is well-known for its medieval temples, which are located on a hillock by the shore. History Being an old port town, Bhatkal is situated in the middle of the Western Ghats and along the Arabian Sea. The place was the main port in the 16th century during the Vijayanagar kingdom and was known for the two temples Jain Chandranath Basadi and Vijayanagar temple that are engraved with animal pictures. There is a huge fort behind the temples that is said to be renovated by Tipu sultan, the ruler of Mysore.
