The 6 days Marangu route is described as a better option for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro using the popular Marangu route. It includes an additional day for acclimatization compared to the shorter 5 days variation and is ideal for climbers who do not like camping in tents. The Marangu route is one of the oldest routes on Kilimanjaro and is known by other names such as Coca-Cola Trail or Tourist Trail because many tourists choose this route to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. It is one of the easiest, shortest and most popular routes, used by approximately 40 percent of all Kilimanjaro climbers. Stops on this route include Mandara Hut, Horombo Hut and Kibo Hut. The map shows the Marangu route towards Uhuru Peak and back to the located exit gate at the foot of the mountain along the same climbing route.
Trek from Marangu Gate at 1860m to Mandara Hut at 2700m. This stage begins at the park gate and ascends to the first hut along the Marangu route, gaining significant altitude during the day.
Trek from Mandara Hut at 2700m to Horombo Hut at 3700m. This day continues the ascent on the Marangu route moving to higher altitude and to the next established hut.
Trek from Horombo Hut at 3700m to Kibo Hut at 4700m. The route climbs from the Horombo area up toward Kibo Hut preparing for the summit attempt.
Depart from Kibo Hut at 4700m, ascend to Uhuru Peak at 5895m for the summit, then descend back down to Horombo Hut at 3700m. This day includes the summit push to Uhuru Peak and the subsequent descent to a lower elevation for recovery.
Descend from Horombo Hut at 3700m back down to Marangu Gate at 1860m. Final day of the trek covers the descent from the high camp back to the park exit and completion of the route.
