Start your journey at 6:30 am We leave for Sigiriya via Kurunagela. Sigiriya is an ancient rock fortress and a palace ruin.This rock fortress was built by king Kasyapa in the 5th century A.D.and was a royal citadel for more than 18 years.It is a complex of buildings,part royal palace, part fortified town,and water gardens on par with the best in the ancient world,constitute a magnificent and unique architectural feat of the ancient Sinhalese. We will climb the rock fortress, you will have the opportunity to take an elephant ride through the jungle.We will leave for another historical rock temple at Dambulla. On the way at a big vegetable market and spice garden, Dambulla dates back to the 1st century BC and is renowned for its impressive cave temple built under a vast overhanging rock.An interesting aspect to observe is the continuous drip of water seeping through this enormous rock cave.There are five caves of interest with ceilings painted in intricate patterns. Buddha statues and images of gods and goddesses follow the contours of the rock. We proceed to Negombo hotel or airport.
