Day wise Itinerary

Day 1 Machame Gate (1,800m) To Machame Camp (3,000m)

Distance: 11 km Hiking Time: 5–7 hours Habitat: Rainforest Meals: Lunch & Dinner Overnight: Machame Camp After breakfast in Moshi, you will be transferred to Machame Gate for registration and park procedures. The trek begins through the lush rainforest zone, where you will enjoy beautiful vegetation, birdlife, and possible monkey sightings. The trail gradually climbs to Machame Camp, where you will have dinner and rest overnight.

Day 2 Machame Camp (3,000m) To Shira Camp (3,840m)

Mount Meru

Distance: 9 km Hiking Time: 4–6 hours Habitat: Moorland Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Overnight: Shira Camp After breakfast, continue your climb through the rainforest as it transforms into the moorland zone. The trail becomes steeper, offering spectacular views of Mount Meru and the surrounding landscapes. You will cross the Shira Plateau and arrive at Shira Camp, where you can enjoy breathtaking sunset views of Kibo Peak.

Day 3 Shira Camp (3,840m) To Lava Tower (4,630m) To Barranco Camp (3,960m)

Distance: 10 km Hiking Time: 6–8 hours Habitat: Alpine Desert Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Overnight: Barranco Camp Today is an important acclimatization day. You hike through the alpine desert toward Lava Tower (4,630m) before descending to the beautiful Barranco Camp. This climb-high, sleep-low approach helps your body adjust to altitude. Enjoy stunning views of glaciers, valleys, and the famous Barranco Wall.

Day 4 Barranco Camp (3,960m) – Karanga Camp (4,035m) – Barafu Camp (4,640m)

Distance: 9 km Hiking Time: 7–8 hours Habitat: Alpine Desert Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Overnight: Barafu Camp After breakfast, climb the famous Barranco Wall, one of the most exciting sections of the route. Continue through the Karanga Valley before joining the summit trail toward Barafu Camp, the final base camp. Rest, enjoy dinner, and prepare for the midnight summit attempt.

Day 5 Barafu Camp (4,640m) – Uhuru Peak (5,895m) – Mweka Camp (3,080m)

Distance: 17 km Hiking Time: 12–15 hours Habitat: Arctic Zone / Rainforest Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Overnight: Mweka Camp Around midnight, begin the challenging summit climb toward Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. The trail passes through volcanic rocks to Stella Point (5,739m) and continues along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak. After celebrating your achievement and taking summit photos, descend to Barafu Camp for a short rest before continuing down to Mweka Camp for overnight.

Day 6 Mweka Camp (3,080m) To Mweka Gate (1,640m) To Moshi

Distance: 10 km Hiking Time: 3–4 hours Habitat: Rainforest Meals: Breakfast & Lunch After breakfast, descend through the beautiful rainforest to Mweka Gate. After completing park procedures and receiving your Kilimanjaro summit certificate, you will be transferred back to Moshi for relaxation and celebration.
