You begin in Samburu National Reserve — where Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe and gerenuk graze under doum palms beside the Ewaso Ng'iro River — before moving deeper north to Meru National Park, the wild heartland of Kenya made famous by Joy Adamson's "Born Free." Meru's dense riverine forest and open Tana River floodplains shelter one of Kenya's fastest-growing elephant populations, white rhino, Grevy's zebra, lion, reticulated giraffe, hippo and the incredibly rare hirola antelope.
