This first day is designed for rest and light exploration, allowing you to acclimatize and prepare for the exciting safari days ahead.
Overnight stay in Nairobi.
After an early breakfast at your hotel in Nairobi, you’ll begin your journey to the Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya’s most famous wildlife destination. Depending on your selected travel option, you will either drive through the stunning Great Rift Valley—with stops along the way for photos and refreshments—or take a short 45-minute flight from Wilson Airport to one of the Mara's local airstrips.
If you travel by road, the scenic drive takes approximately 6–7 hours, offering views of rural Kenyan landscapes and a chance to witness life in the countryside. You’ll stop for lunch en route (usually in Narok town), before continuing into the heart of the savannah. If flying, you’ll be picked up from the airstrip by your safari lodge's guide and enjoy a short game drive on the way to your camp.
Upon arrival at your lodge or tented safari camp, you'll check in and have time to rest before heading out for a late afternoon or evening game drive (depending on arrival time). This will be your first chance to spot iconic African wildlife such as elephants, zebras, giraffes, antelopes, and possibly even lions or cheetahs as they begin to stir for their nighttime hunts. Return to your camp in time for dinner under the stars, followed by a relaxing evening around the campfire or in your tented suite.

Overnight: Safari Lodge or Tented Camp in Masai Mara
Today is dedicated to a full-day exploration of the magnificent Masai Mara National Reserve, one of Africa’s premier safari destinations and home to an incredible variety of wildlife. After an early morning wake-up call, you'll enjoy a hearty breakfast at your lodge or camp before setting out on a full-day game drive with your professional safari guide.
The early hours of the day offer the best chance to see predators like lions, leopards and cheetahs while they are still active from the night. As you traverse the vast savannahs and acacia-dotted landscapes, keep your camera ready to capture sightings of elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffalos, and countless species of birds. During the migration season (July to October), you may even witness the dramatic river crossings of wildebeest and zebras as they brave crocodile-infested waters—a once-in-a-lifetime sight.
Lunch will either be served back at the lodge or enjoyed as a picnic lunch in the bush, allowing you to stay out longer and explore deeper into the reserve. In the afternoon, continue your game drive through different parts of the park, such as the Mara Triangle or Talek River area, increasing your chances of spotting the elusive rhino or observing a predator-prey encounter.
You also have the option to include a visit to a nearby Maasai village, where you’ll gain insight into the traditional culture, dances and daily life of the Maasai people (optional, paid locally). Return to the lodge in the early evening to freshen up and enjoy a relaxing dinner under the stars, recounting the day's wildlife encounters.

It’s a chance to spot any animals you may have missed, or simply to savor the peaceful beauty of the savannah one last time. After the game drive, return to your camp or lodge for a relaxed breakfast and check-out.
Depending on your travel option, you'll either begin the drive back to Nairobi, passing once again through the scenic Great Rift Valley, or you’ll be transferred to the nearby airstrip for your domestic flight back to Nairobi (45 minutes). If driving, expect to arrive in Nairobi by late afternoon or early evening, with a stop en route for lunch.
Once in Nairobi, you'll be transferred either to your hotel (if you're staying the night) or directly to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your onward flight, depending on your departure schedule.
