This Expedition Presents a Tremendous Opportunity to Become Acquainted with Atacama Desert and the Altiplano High-plateu, with An Excellent, Gradual Acclimatization, Easy Daily Treks, and Visits to National Parks, Lauca in Chile and Sajama, in Bolivia.

It Includes the Ascent of Cerro Huani Huani a 5.074m / 16.647ft Peak and Ends with the Ascent of Nevado Acotango, a 6.052m / 19.855ft Mountain, Both Located Within the Vicinity of Sajama National Park.

The Beauty of the Landscape is Evidenced By Incredible Views of Chungara Lake and Cota-cotani, Sajama, Pomerape and Parinacota Volcanoes, among Others.

During this 9-day Tour, We Will have the Opportunity to Visit Highland Towns and Become Acquainted with Their Inhabitants Who are of Aymara and Quechua Ethnicities. The Very Prolific and Visible Local Wild Fauna such as Guanacos and Vicuñas of the Camelid Species, Foxes, and Vizcachas of the Rodent Species and a Plethora of Bird Species.

And the Icing On the Cake: Attaining the Beautiful Summit of the Acotango a Real High Altitude Peak Without Having to Carry Heavy Backpacks or Set Up Camp from High Up!

Day wise Itinerary

• Day 1 : Santiago De Chile – Arica – Socoroma.

  From Santiago, You Will Take Your Connection Flight to Arica, Where You Will Be Met By Our Staff and Vehicles. You Will Drive 2 Hours to Socoroma, Small Agricultural Village At the Foothill of the Andes.

• Day 2 : Socoroma – Putre.

  Hike from this Small Village to the More Populated Village of Putre. The Hike Goes Inside a Canyon, and After 5 to 6 Hours Hiking We Will Find Our Vehicle Waiting for Us At the International Road Arica La Paz. From There a Short Drive Bring Us to Putre,

• Day 3 : Putre Acclimatizing Hike.

  We Spend the Day Climbing a Small Summit in Nevado Taapaca, Where We Will Reach 4800m. At the End of the Day We Drive Back to Putre.

• Day 4 : Putre – Huani Huani Summit – Cotacotani Basecamp.

  From Putre a 1,5 Hours Drive Approach Us to Cerro Huani Huani, An Easy 5000m Summit. The 4×4 Will Bring Us to 4500m and the Climb Will Take Approximately 2 to 3 Hours. In the Afternoon We Set Up Our Camp in Cotacotani At the Foothill of the Payachata Volcanoes.

• Day 5 : Parinacota – Sajama National Park

  Today We Dismantle the Camp and Drive to Sajama National Park in Bolivia. We Cross the Border to Bolivia in Tambo Quemado and Then a Short Drive Bring Us to Sajama Village, Where We Stay in a Local Modest Lodge, a Typical Andean Small House Built in Adobe.

• Day 6 : SAJAMA NATIONAL PARK

  Easy acclimatizing hike to the local geyser field. Visit to Sajama hot springs. In the afternoon we prepare the backpack and clothing for the summit day.

• Day 7 : SAJAMA VILLAGE – ACOTANGO SUMMIT (6052m) – SAJAMA VILLAGE

  We Start with Breakfast At 6am, Leaving the Lodge At 7am, 1 Hour Driving Bring Us to 5600 Meters, Following a New Mining Road. From There We Will Be Able to Reach the Summit in 4 to 5 Hours, Walking in Easy Terrain, Last Part in a Not Crevassed Glacier. Once We are in the Sommital Dome We Will Cross It and Reach the Summit. The Descent Should Take Another Hour or So.the 4×4 Will Await Us At the Same Place. Drive Back to Sajama Village, for a Well-deserved Rest and a Farewell Dinner Prepared By Our Staff.

• Day 8 : SAJAMA – ARICA

  We Will Cross the Border Back to Chile and Drive to Arica, (4 Hours) Arriving to this Town in the Afternoon. On the Way Down Towards the Pacific Ocean, We Will Stop to Watch Wildlife, Visit Archaeological Sites such as Tambo Zapahuira and Copaquilla Fortress, Enjoy the Immense Landscape of the Highlands and the Desert from a Different Perspective.

• Day 9 : ARICA – SANTIAGO

  Morning at leisure in Arica and transfer to the airport in the afternoon.
