Derry or Londonderry is a photogenic city situated over the Foyle River in Northern Ireland. Derry has a number of beautiful attractions such as museums, cathedrals and art galleries. The Tower Museum is highly acclaimed for its collections that tell about the history of the people of Derry. The city has an array of churches such as the St. Coulomb’s Cathedral, St. Augustine’s Cathedral and St. Eugene’s Cathedral.
The city walls in Derry are an important feature. The walls are still intact, even though they were built by the Irish Society in the 16th century. The city is hoarded with promenades, walkways, and gates which is remnant of the renaissance street style. The city has four major gates – Ferryquay Gate, Bishop’s Gate, Shipquay Gate and Butcher Gate. The mural painting of local artists can be seen in Bogside, near the city walls. The region also houses buildings like Free Derry Museum, Bloody Sunday Memorial, and Free Derry Museum.
The city has a cornucopia of museums that feature exhibits belonging to the pre historic times. Some of the museums worth visiting are The Guildhall, Tower Museum, Harbour Museum, Railway museum, Genealogy Centre and the Old Gaol.
Another interesting feature of the city is the Halloween Carnival that is held annually wooing many people from across the globe. Derry has a number of retail stores and shopping malls like the Richmond Centre and Foyleside. The city is filled with entertainment throughout the year. The Playhouse, the renowned theatre hosts events like dance, music, and theatre by international and local artists.
